What replacement tyres?

Featured Replies

What tyres would readers suggest for my 2.0tdi estate, now done 40,000miles and the originals are getting ready for replacemement?

What have you got fitted at present? Are you happy with them? What do you want from your tyres; ride comfort, mileage, grip (dry or wet)?

Personally, in general terms; I'd go for Michelin or Vredestein; can be more specific if tyre size is known.

My Octy II 1.9Tdi hatch is shod with Michelin Primacy (205/55 R16) which offer excellent wet and dry grip, longevity and good ride comfort. They are worth the extra cost over cheaper rubber.

Falkens are good, got four on mine now, quietened it down.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

I wouldn't vote for the Falkens, I have a pair of 452's on the front and the grip in the wet is abysmal.

no worries with mine, and I drive like a **** and they have done less than 500 miles and have manufacturers maching compound on them, so are meant to be slippy.

Michelin Pilot Primacy HP. Lock the thread :)

I hate Primacy Pilots :D Lets keep it open :P

I use Yokohama Paradas, but the wet grip leaves a little to be desired, albeit very predictable, but the combination of dry grip and wear rate, and they look pretty too is a plus for me.

I have just renewed all 4 of my tyres the other week and was trying to get these! I phoned round a few online companies and local and found it hard to get a quote on these at a responsible price or at all. I the end I got these - 225/45R17 91Y DUNLOP SPORT MAXX TT at £353 for 4 from event tyres (good next day service done at my workplace). At the moment, all I can say is they seem to have better grip (traction control not kicking in so much or at all!), slightly less economical although not really sure at the moment and more comforting than the Bridgestone Potenza RE050's I had all round for the last 18000 miles or so.

Sport Maxx TT got an excellent review recently in one of the magazines - think it was either Evo or Auto Express.

I agree with you about Bridgestone - they need to get some new tyres out there, the RE050 is getting very long in the tooth. They were my long time favourite, but don't go near them now.

We need monkster to tell us what size tyres he has.

If they are the typical 205/55 16 used IIRC on the 2.0L Tdi some of the ones recommended so far are not available in that size.

Thanks my tyres are 205/55 16's I only do 7000 miles a year now I'm retired, but I do sometimes drive enthusiastically.

In which case I'd suggest you repeat your Michelins, now Primacy HP, OR go for Vredestein Sportrac 3 or Ultrac (the Ultra Sessantas are not available for 16" wheels).

Hi, I run 225/45/17" and for the last two full sets I have used Firestone z200 fuelsaver, I drive fairly lively most of the time and have found the grip and longevity to be very impressive, 25-30,000kms on the front and twice that on the rear. Firestone are Bridgestones cheaper cousin.

I don't want tyres that are meant to be slippery!

They have done about 5000 miles now and they are still 5hite :thumbdwn:

Vredestein Sportrac will more than meet your needs and should cost £60 to £70 each fitted etc. Hard wearing, good in all weather conditions ans consistently performing well in various tyre tests.
