Looking for info on Sport model

Featured Replies

Hey, i currently own a MK1 vRS and am changing to a Sport model TDi Mk2 next week.

All i want to know if differences to the sport model from mainstream models i.e., suspension, gear ratios etc.

Is a sport model lowered and slightly stiffened from say a classic or ambiente?

thanks guys

dean

Hi dean

there's only 3 sports on here that i know of ...

smstext has a petrol

damo (in sheffield) & myself both have diesels

the interior spec' is like an ambiente

the exterior has a front & rear lower spoiler & a little boot lip

the ride height is 25mm lower than classic /ambiente and a little firmer (but not harsh)

the 17" wheels are called pegasus and are fitted with 225/45/17 rubber

a few sports had external badges on the doors, most just have sill kick plates

as i live in a nasty postcode the group 10 insurance is a real blessing (14 for VRS)

plus the lack of badges and rear wing mean its very subtle.

Damo has modded his, so he'll be able to offer more techie guidance

cheers ... Darren

thanks for the quick reply, the car in question came into work to be valued last week and i didnt see it.

i have just seen the appraisal sheet, its coming in to swap monday.

should be good fun

I have the sport tdi model

It has lower suspension, although I have since replaced mine with KW coilovers :D

It also comes colour coded (apart from sidestrips, which I did myself), has a subtle boot spoiler and twin chrome tailpipes.

Very similar interior to a vrs, with the silver dash/door inserts and comfier seats.

If you can afford the TDi vRS then I would say go for it, but the sport is a very good alternative and no DPF :D

Here is a pic of mine in its current state anyway

Cheers

Damian

that looks a nice car mate, well done.

i was going to keep my mk1 but for the price this car is coming in for id be mad not to buy it to be honest.

i think i will be happy with standard sport suspension but will add some toys like mfd2 and cruise.

what sort of mpg are you getting from the pd140?

ta

hi there, basically you get the same as the vrs minus the vrs spoiler and a turbo, instead you get a subtle boot lid lip. You have colour coded front and rear bumpers which look the same as the vrs apart from the front fogs that look the same as a standard octy. The wing mirrors are colour coded too.

It comes with the sports kit which is lowered suspension and the pegasus alloys, the inside you get a three spoke leather steering wheel and sports seats (but with out the vrs look or logo on them), lumbar support and a stream mp3 stereo.

Top speed on sat nav on german autobahn has been just over 140mph and easily gets up to a ton without noticing it. Fuel economy on the petrol is good currently averaging 36.6mpg (click the icon at the bottom to see my fuel economy on the car).

Cant think of anything else off the top of my head really, have got some pics of it on here, mainly in the cleaning section where ive cleaned it.

here is one picture anyway dsc00999nj9.jpg

Hi, I run a 140PD Elegance with sports suspension so near as damn it a 'Sport' including the boot spoiler and twin exhaust tailpipe! I do also have it remapped but can say for the 1st year it was not and I have never really seen a difference tbh! So, I seem to average 43 to 45 mpg on a daily commute of 18 miles. Its a bit better on longer runs, this is always dependent on my driving style though, but generally I drive quite heavy footed ;)!!

Yeah, mine has sport suspension and 17' wheels. To be honest, I've got tired of it. Ride is too harsh. The only nice ride I've had with it was on one new race track, few days before it's opening. I've done 4 laps and it was smooth but stable. Surface was new and in perfect condition. There was no roadnoise at all. Otherwise, I feel it to harsh to drive on normal roads. I feel even smalest imperfection on the road surface and now I'm tired of it. Roadnoise has got a bit better with new tyres but still louder then I'd like it to be. I'll swap it in October 2009 when it reaches 3 years. Next Octy will be with normal suspension and 16' wheels.

But it's just me. I loved it during first year but I can't stand vibrations anymore. There are no roads for it, I need more comfortable suspension and tyres.

But as I said, it's just me.

Blimey the roads must be bad in Portugal!

My Sport seems pretty quiet & comfortable to me (had a standard mk1 TDI before)

its firmer for the corners but mine still seems relaxing otherwise.

I've done 22,000 miles (37,000 km) in 9 months and the cars done 80k miles in total.

If you have a really harsh ride from your Sport make sure the numbnuts that did the PDi hasnt left the supsension chocks in, ive seen them last 40k no problems..lol.

hehehe ... mpg my favourite subject ....

with continental eco tyres ... low 50s short run (<20 miles) high 50s on a run

with Avon ZZ3 225/45/17 summer tyres (very grippy & quieter) ... mid 40s on a short run, low 50s on a run

currently with Avon Ice Touring winter tyres 195/65/15 ... low 50s - high 50s

tyres make a quite difference as you can see.

cheers ... darren
