Lupo TDI ? ?

Featured Replies

At the moment i am running my E30 M3 as a daily car, thus far my costs have been:

Fabia 1.4TDi - lower purchase price, much the same car...

Rob.

1.9 tdi - a bit more to buy, little more to run, but a lot more fun to modify. ;)

I'd argue that if you were thinking of the Lupo purely as a means of transport, get a smart fortwo, and benefit from a lower purchase price and lower depreciation. If you actually want a useable car, go for the Fabia - as Rob says, plus with a decent boot and useable rear seats. ;)

Smart diesel like Rob's would be the way to go

Small? check

Economical? check

Job's a good un. :D

I want a small, very economical run of the mill car, no mods just a means to an end with reliability.

....What about a SEAT Arosa either 1 litre engine or diesel version same platform as Lupo but for less money?

Oooh, get you... :gay: :P

Smart turbodiesel is pretty cheap to run if you do plenty of miles to recover the cost of getting a diesel engine, but it only comes in LHD, main dealer servicing isn't cheap and you're a bit limited to which tyres you can get for it (ie. costs almost as much for a new set of rears as all 4 tyres on my Octy).

Of course, there are ways round all of these, and with Grp 2 insurance and excellent fuel economy you can recover the difference easily enough.

I've had about 100mpg out of it (374km on about 10 litres!), though typical day-to-day driving I get about 75-80mpg.

Petrol version has a turbo, so you *will* rag it, and your economy won't be stunning...about 30-40mpg.

Daewoo Matiz/Kia Picanto are both cheap to run, but don't think you can get diesel so it'll add up over high miles.

You could probably get a second-hand CityRover *really* cheap too.. :D

Well an rare occasions i take the kids out in my car and will need 4 seats, and the ride on the smart is meant to be shocking anyway, as for the arosa i have looked at them and they are quite basic in comparison grey cloth which is nasty no ABS and actually rarer than a LUPO - !

Quick look on Autotrader brings up 10 Arosas near you (assuming you live near the garage that that Lupo was at. None for more than

what about a new citroen c3 1.4 diesel?

pros:

good write ups, nearly 70mpg combined/high 50's urban. lots of space with good boot. internet brokers offering new for

Arosa's are rarer, cheaper and look better than the Lupo, therefore depreciation should be much less. I don't think the Arosa TDi's available anymore. The interior on the Arosa Sport is quite nice, with a nicer looking dash than the Lupo's. Performance wise (the 1.4 16v) is OK, but fuel economy isn't great.

If you're looking at a Lupo, then I'd seriously reconsider and go for an Arosa instead. For the equivalent model, you're paying about

Erm - i have owned a Citroen SAXO VTR since 10-10-02 i bought it brand new, UK supplied from Dixons in doncaster for

Oh, by the way...since when was the Lupo "much the same car" as a Fabia...?

Same engine, similar running costs...I'm not going to bore the poor chap with details of platform underpinnings...

Rob.

Sister is selling a seat Aroso, 1l I think. Its a sport model. 52 plate.

Very low mileage.

1 Carefull sister owner from new.

No, one's a stripped-out roadster, one's a people carrier. Both the Lupo and Fabia are small economical shopping cars, and so suitable for the required task... :P

Except the Lupo hasn't got a boot to speak of, and the Fabia, although not as cavernous as an Octavia, has...

Except the Lupo isn't a comfortable motorway car, and the Fabia is...

Except the Lupo is a good city-car and the Fabia's just a little too big and heavy on the juice...

My point being that you said the Lupo and Fabia were virtually the same car...which is obviously a load of bolleaux...

No, I said they were "much the same car"...as in they're both small economical cars, sharing the same engine and probably the same gearbox/clutch, and they're made from the same parts bins so switches, etc will probably be fairly similar, as will overall build quality.

I'd say that's a fair bit which is the same, and, as I reiterate, they're both small economical cars, I'd say that's fair ground for using a shorthand expression of "they're much the same cars".

I'd also disagree on all your points about the Fabia not having a small boot (it does), about it being a good motorway car (too much road noise), and about it not being very good round the city (any courtesy car I've had will happily nip round Manchester on fumes).

I don't really understand why you're getting so upset about it...

Not, really. Just looking for an argument... :D

In most of the road tests i've read, Skodas build quality, seems better than VW's.

And would you believe it...the new tax disc for it is *pink*..
