what goes wrong ?

Featured Replies

Daughter has chance of an 02 Golf GTI -diesel version - as title - anything o look for - assume it's similar /the same engine as used in Skoda ---eg belt change @60 ,special oil etc ?

Check all the windows go up and down properly, and the rear wash-wipe works for a start.

The engine is very similar at least- I think it will be a PD150 though?

Could be one of a number of different engines, until we have a few specifics its difficult to say.

ARB bushes, exhaust centre mounting, central door locking issues, rear washer not working are a few things that pop into my head.

Damn good car really.

I think the 02 cars were TDI 110's were they not?

If it's a 110 then sticky turbo is something to look at and also look for a leaky EGR.

Budget for new filters, an oil change and cleaning the EGR/intercooler plus a gear box oil change.

If it's a 110 the oil is VW505.0 or better, so less than the PD oils.

As Ross well says though it could also be a PD115 or 130 or 150 as there were lots of engines that made it into the GT TDIs.

Thanks lads - passed it on - only thing that came to my mind was when the cambelt should be done .Is it 60 k like the Skoda unit or ??

they suffer from skoda-envy and often shy away / go into limp mode when next to a cheaper Skoda with the same engine. ;)

Cambelts on the pd100 / pd130, etc engines are 4 years / 60k whatever comes first.

On 2002 it should be a PD, the 115 was in by 2001.
