How do I set up using my N95 8gb as a portable modem for my laptop?

Featured Replies

I need to take my laptop away for the day with me tomorrow and for those times when there is no wifi available I thought I might use my mobile.

Is this easy to set up?

Do you have Nokia PC suite installed on there ???

Yeah but I hate it!! I think I may have to reinstall and check I did everything right. I just use straight forward data transfer for my mobile pics :o

Does it have a modem feature then?

pcsuite is very easy to use and does this for you.

Aye it sure does its the top right icon you may need to play with the settings iirc

Just watch the costs of using your mobile as a modem.

If you have an "unlimited data plan" from your provider this will only be data used by WAP and not as a modem and so could be quite expensive.

You can set it up manually without PC suite, but it's a bit more of a faff.

Make sure you have the latest version of PC Suite, available from the Nokia website direct. I'm finding it's much better than previous versions and use it quite a lot now (phone backups and writing text messages from the PC particularly).

It is of course worth checking what the details for data traffic are on your phone contract though!

I use my normal n95 as a modem through pc suite.

Check with your phone provider that they will allow the phone as a modem. I have a T-Mobile web'n'walk plus package and it includes a reasonable amount of data per month. I used it the other week on the train with no problems.
