Changing Octy steering wheel?

Featured Replies

I was peering through the window of a new (old shape) octy tonight at a local dealers and saw that the steering wheel now comes with stereo controls fitted.

Would it be possible to add these to a normal steering wheel , or would it need the whole thing changing over , as the wheel itself seemed identical bar the contols poking out the side of the centre cover.

If it is possible to add them , will the wiring be there (03 plate elegance) to go to the stereo or would that need to be added as well.?

I know I will need an adaptor to connect the Remote socket on a Sony HU to the factory fit wiring as well.

Oh and if anyone wants a cheap octy , they have 04 plate pre-registered Ambiente SEs with the PD 130 engine for

That'll be the "Multi Function" steering wheel i would guess?

It's a cost option IIRC.

Ah , so a retro fit might be an option.

No doubt Big K will be along soon to offer an opinion.

Not sure if it would be a cost effective thing to do.

If you can buy the wheel without the airbag module, then I guess it might be. Otherwise, I reckon it would be pretty pricey.

Bagpuss.

It would be cheaper to employ someone to sit in the car and control the stereo for you

You could always get a voice controlled HU like I've got, its called the wife :D also works with the Aircon and acts as an Auto Pilot if your too drunk to drive home after a night at the pub.
