Diesel Economy - Impressed

Featured Replies

On my recent trip in France I did a check on the MPG for one stretch of the journey & must admit I'm somewhat impressed

Car is a 1.9 Diesel L&K Estate & I achieved the following:-

On a Journey of 220 miles With Air con on, 5 ocupants + Luggage & managing an average speed of 78 mph (trip included a fuel stop) we got 40.4 MPG. Basically it was clear roads & we ran with the cruise set at 100 but still well impressed

So when do you get it chipped / remapped Stuart ?!?

A few years back I had my A4 110 Tdi Quattro 'tweaked' (identical engine) and it really enhanced the performance and feel - more solid mid range and no 'tailing off' of the power over 4000rpm.

It was my first foray into tuning (I haven't stopped since as all have been reliable) and was a German 'Hopa' unit which I am almost certain is now being sold/marketed under a different name by Bromley's in Lancashire. (see Diesel Car Mag ads)

My A4 was running about 140bhp but it was the effect on torque that improved the driveability - up from 173 lb/ft (from memory) to 210. Fuel consumption at a cruise was unaffected and about 5% worse thatn before only because I used ther power more !

Fabpreza, I think at some point in the future it will visit Jabba, still waiting to put a few more miles on it & it will have to wait until the 4x4 has been sorted

stuart

Try getting big wheels and wider tyres. The range on my Fabia has dropped by 10-15% since getting mine.... :(
