Nah dont think so... my brothers 306 dturbo doesn't even have a cover as standard

It will help to reduce drag and keep the engine bay a bit cleaner (think of all the salt on the roads this time of year) making it easier to work on and hopefully preventing road grime welding bits together.

Its not an MOT requirement.

Its main function is sound deadening, thats about it really.

......and a feeble attempt to protect the sump

Its quite a fair bit louder without it on. Imagine it ust help to keep the engine and engine bay clean aswell?
