Xenon Lights

Featured Replies

When I bought my car, I didnt think to spec it with the Xenon light option, wish I had done now. Is it possible to have these fitted afterwards at the dealers, if so anyone any ideas on cost???

Here is a part of a discussion back in September.

Hope this answers your question.

Retrofit of OE Xenon Headlamps is NOT possible; what with the requirements for self levelling and headlamp wash etc.

Upgrade your regular bulbs with Osram Nightbreakers (as already suggested), Philips Extreme or PIAA Extreme White Plus.

But as said in the original answer to your question - unless your after market HIDs are being fitted with a self-levelling system and adequate washer system then there is a high potential your vehicle will no longer be road legal.

Imagine your nice car with after market HIDs but no MOT!!

It is the washer system requirement that makes legal after market HID installation cost prohibative.

Washers and self levelling is only a requirement for Xenons fitted from the factory.

The rules on aftermarket kits are very sketchy.

No - it is not just factory fitted HIDs that have this requirement.

OP - Please read through the following link before you risk the road legality of your vehicle:

Department for Transport - Aftermarket HID (Xenon) headlamps

are the upgraded bulbs listed a worthwhile upgrade and how easy (read: foolproof) are theey to fit?

Cheers - I also had to pass on Xenons at time of purchase :(

On the Leon, it is possible to retrofit the Xenons (headlamp units, ballasts, bulbs) self levelling, and washer system :)

Kufatec do a kit which contains all the parts needed for the self levelling kit - 2x axle sensors, control units, and wiring harnesses.

That's not enough. The headlight housing must have E-approval for xenons also. There's a text DCR if the housing is approved for dipped beam xenon bulbs. Also the aftermarket HID kit must have E-approval and none of the H-base HID bulbs have that nor never will get it.

Not having these approvals makes the lights illegal even if you'll have self-levelling and all the bells and whistles.

Well it must be enough, its its using alll of the original OEM parts ;)
