can anybody decode my fault codes pls

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got the following fault codes on my Fabia 1.4 16v (2001) LPG conversion.

can anybody tell me what they mean please ?

This is my first attempt at vag-com so I'm only on shareware at the moment but if it helps me keep the dreaded "check engine" light off I'll definitely be upgrading to the full item.

Codes = 16555 Fuel trim system too lean bank 1 ??????

17598 P1190-35-10 intermittent

17972 P1564-35-10 intermittent

Is there a list of codes published anywhere (so far my searches have been unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance.

Pete

There was an LPG converted 1.4 16v on ebay a while back.. this the same one? Silver?

Sorry to say that this is indeed the ebay car.

It managed 230 miles (from near Newcastle to Aberdeen) before the engine management light came on and it's been on ever since. Spent five days in my local Skoda workshop but still no joy. Light returns very shortly after being reset.

Seller neglected to inform me (even though I did ask) that he had put the car into a Skoda dealer the PREVIOUS day to me buying it - they replaced the lambda sensor, the EGR valve, the throttle body and reset the dash light. According to seller it had been a great car with barely a blemish on its service history - yeah right !!

 :thumbdwn:

This is for AUA Engine code

16555 - Poss causes - Intake/Exhaust Leak, AIR System, MAF Sensor, Fuel Pressure Pump/Injector(s),EVAP Canister Purge Valve,HO2S

17598 - Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Range Performance problem -Poss causes - Wiring, HO2S, HT Leads, Spark Plugs, Misfire detection

17972 - Throttle Control Unit- Voltage Low during basic setting - Poss causes- Battery, Wiring

Could also have something to do with LPG set up. If you are in Aberdeen there's a place in Laurencekirk which is pretty clued up on LPG systems may be worth getting that side checked out also.

If you are in Aberdeen I might be able to help you out as I'm not far down the road and I have diagnostic gear.

That is a very generous offer and I thank you. I'm away at work all next week but I'll certainly get in touch once I'm home and can devote some time to the problem. Will check out Laurencekirk too.

Cheers.

Which probe did they change? If you have two probes it may well be a problem with the other probe.

It is also quite common on the 1.4 for the coil packs to play up, this causes unburnt fuel to be dumped straight down the exhaust which sadly blocks the cat up. These faults can be tied up with the fault codes above.

The second sporadic code I would worry about to much, sounds liek they may not have set the throttle up after they replaced it, but the mixture fault and the missfire recognition are the ones to go for.

Have a look at one of you coil packs under the engine cover, get the part number off it and let me know what it is, ill chack to see if you have the later superceeded parts.

Pete, I have now included a link to Bentley Publishers comprehensive table of VW Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the opening 'sticky' in this forum for future reference. That table decodes the error codes you reported as:

16555 - Fuel trim, Bank 1 system too lean

17598 - Linear O2 Sensor / Reference Voltage Incorrect Signal

17972 - Idle Speed Contr. Throttle Pos. Low Voltage During Adaptation

The Bentley Publishers Diagnostic Trouble Codes link is also below for ease of reference:

Thanks everyone.

Will check out the coil pack tomorrow when its light.

I'll be off the scene until next Sunday though - off to earn the brass to repair the car with !!
