Hi Rich

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your VRS.

Sounds like the sprag clutch on the starter motor ( one way clutch for protection ) annoing noise only cured by fitting a new strater motor. If you can live with it it will cause no issues in the short term

Let us know if this is backed up by your fitter.

Have a great new year.

Sounds like a starter motor.

Got to agree with that, pretty common.

Ha good plan, if its good enough for Fatty then thats what I'm gonna do:P

But i also have this starter screech, my car embarrasses me on a morning :o

My Arosa developed the same problem. It was the spray clutch not disengaging when really cold and fixed itself in the warmer weather. My Octy does it as well.

Chap at the top of the street has got a VW 2.0 Petrol and does the same. Been screaching all year long and it still runs fine.

I gave mine a clean last month which seemed to shut it up, but now it's -2 degrees outside in the mornings it's doing it again. I wonder how much they are to replace and if I can get it done under warranty...

Starter motors arn't usually cheap :(

Mines scretched since i have owned it, thats two years now, its never got any worse or caused any probs.

One of those things that isn't going to kill your car but is still f:censored:ng annoying

Oh well, at least I can entertain the street at 8:00 in the morning with my screeching starter motor and mooing rear brakes

It might not kill the car, just may not start one morning.

Genuine starters are around £100 iirc.

cool think ill ignore it then for the moment and see if it stops when it warms up as it doesnt really bother me tbh just making sure nothings is about to launch out of the top of the engine bay one morning! and doesnt sound to bad if it does go one morning for a replacement.

thanks

 Yeah mine's the same, very annoying though sometimes!

yep, my 2.0 fabia does it too, tis annoying but i aint gonna fix it till it blows up

my vrs does it, annoying sound isnt it. Not going to fix it til it breaks and once the weather gets warmer it will go anyways :)

Mine used to do it!

But I removed the starter and cleaned it up, and greased the shaft (oooh controversial!).

It's been flawless for the last 6 months. Not heard a schriek since.

Using Castrol LM grease works, although most people try and tell me it doesn't!

Hi mine started with a little screech a week ago, progressed to a horrible sound now.

glad i've read this always thought mine was the alternater belt slipping on startup, presumed either the belt or tensioner was on its way out

Mine used to do it... fault was the a/c compressor clutch. New a/c compressor fixed it!

Covered under warranty, thankfully! Invoice amount was £900!

id say its the starter

Yup starter ... Mine does it too but it aint broke yet so wont be fixing just yet lol

Yeah mine is the same getting worse in the cold weather! So are my bloody annoying mooing brakes!!!!!!
