The future's bright - the future's sooty

Featured Replies

It seems Skoda are going all oil-burner on us. The top of the range performance Fabia is a diesel. The fastest, most accelerative and most efficient cars of the Octavia Mk II range are diesels. Rumours abound that the next Octavia vRS will be a diesel.

So does the future of "top of the range" Skoda cars look like being powered exclusively by diesels? Is it likely that VAG will soon be building even more powerful six, and maybe eight cylinder diesels?

V.A.G allready have 4,5,6,8,10 cylinder diesels to choose from.

It seems with ecomony, better insurance etc Diesels are popular. But seeing the investment the group are ploughing into FSi units i dont think the petrol is dead just yet, I think the 1.8T will be before long but it will be superceeded with the more eco friendly 2.0 FSi turbo unit. Plus the V6 (R32 lump) is rumoured to be available for Skoda to use, though personally im hoping they dont.

This is the first I've heard of VAG 5 and 8 cylinder diesels. What models do they appear in?

I quite agree with you on th 3.2 V6. It's a horrible, thirsty, heavy lump - any ideas what it's potential might be with a supercharger or turbos?

I'm hoping for a 2.8 V6 bi-turbo for the next Octy vRS, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm betting it'll be the 200 BHP 2.0 FSI :( I'm getting tired of four pot engines.

Isn't there a Golf V5 diesel in circulation? And I'm assuming the V8 is in the Audi A8.

The five cylinder Diesel is an inline job but the unit is rather old, as seen in transporters. There never was a V5 Diesel, the V5 you are thinking of is a petrol and it's basically a V6 minus one cylinder.

The 8 cylinder Diesel is new but is currently only available in the Audi A6/8 in Germany.
