Need more grip

Featured Replies

Currently running on standard 205/17 tyres which have a few thousand miles left on (contis). They just about coped with putting the power down but since the remap and a sharp torque spike early on, all i get in second gear is spin spin. Third isnt as bad but i shift up early to avoid it, which means waiting for the revs to build up which is no good really.

Would upgrading to 225 wide make the extra differnce or not? and what else could be done apart from altering the map.

Maybe they will perform better in summer but i may throw the odd track day in aswell (will be a first) so it will be driven aggresivly.

Thanks in advance.

is it possible to put 225 wide tyres on 205 wheels????if so id consider wider tyres for the vrs zeniths, that would help my traction tenfold i bet

I run 225 just fine on standard wheels. If you want more grip then LSD and KWv3's and other suspension components.

i agree the tyres are fine, unless the full beans is given, suspension is on the way though, and no doubt it will make a big difference with the weight transfering off the front in hard accelleration. not allowed the LSD till later in the year, the wife has spoken.

but if you could fit 235s on 225 alloys it would give massive of extra grip

225 / 40 / 18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta = Job oxo!!!!

bu that still doesnt answer the question;)........will 235 tyres fit on 18inch 225 zeniths. and is there any issues with it?

Think i will replace the tyres to 225 when they need doing. Cant justify £1200 on a LSD yet, as im trying not to spend to much on it as my initial plan was to be just a remap + few little things. I will just have to use the power in the right place for the time being.

thanks alot though.

There is no such thing as a "225 wheel"; wheel sizes are measured in inches, not millimeters.

I'm going to ignore issues of inset, offset and clearance, and just state that the tyre manufacturers recommend that the wheel width should be 70% to 95% of the tyre width, and from that point of view a 235 tyre fits a vRS rim ok. I'm not saying there will or won't be clearence issues, because I don't know about 235s; there aren't issues with 225s on the standard vRS rims though.
