Compressor noise? on startup

Featured Replies

For a few minutes after ignition my '04 fabia 1.9SDI has a noise coming from under the bonnet that sounds like perhaps a compressor pump? That's just what it sounds like, not saying that's what it is.

Anyone any idea on what this sound is?. It's done it since I bought the vehicle as an approved used car from a main dealer but I didn't think at the time to ask them what it is.

Thx

Could be one of several things. If you have air-con, it could be the AC compressor charging, or if R134a gas is low, lack of AC lube (Lube oil is part of the the AC gas)

PAS pump building pressure.

You will often hear different noises during cold weather starts.

mine does it at well. but my AC dosn't work, hasn't done for a while now. I thought it was the power steering pump myself......

Auxilliary Air Pump at a guess.

Thanks everyone. I do have AC so it could well be that. All the other suggestions sound very feasible too.

Thanks again.
