FAO Theresias - Immo 4 adaptation

Featured Replies

Hi Sebastian

I didn't realise you were a member on here otherwise I would have posted here yesterday :)

I have been trying to do a cluster swap in my Octavia II and I appear to be unable to adapt the immobilizer using VCDS. I sent an email to support @ Ross-Tech yesterday after reading one of your posts on VWVortex about a similar problem back in July.

The car is MY 2006 and the replacement cluster is brand new, manufactured in November 07. I am using the latest version of VCDS (auto updated a few days ago) with a serial HEX+CAN lead.

I am getting to the end of the immo adaptation and I am entering adaptation channel 050 and the first two field populate with the VIN as it should. As soon as I hit Save however, the immo light starts blinking again and I am back to square one.

The post I read made some mention to VW changing the immo challenge procedure which made it impossible to adapt with VCDS, as I say this was back in July or possible August.

Do you remember this instance? And is this still the case?

Many thanks

Doesn't that procedure just adapt the new dash panel to the engine ECU?, so that the codes of the new dash and ECU tally up with each other. As you haven't yet adapted your keys to the new dash the immobiliser light will illuminate.

Do you have an "End-of-line immobiliser" error on the maxidot? If you do, it just means that you have to adapt your keys like Fordfan wrote. Everything else should be ok. Especially if the VIN's are correct.

When you adapt the keys make sure the other key what is not being adapted is far enough from the ignition. Preferable place is the passenger seat, not on top of the dashboard.

The VIN won't match up on the dash, so I can't get as far as matching the keys.

If I follow the adaptation procedure and put the old PIN in, click TEST and the VIN appears, click SAVE, close the controller, turn off the ignition as written, and then turn back on and check measured block 081 I get "Group 081 not available". So I'm stuck.

I tried key matching following the procedure incase I was just being an idiot but I was unable to.

I'm asking this again. Do you have the "Immobilizer end-of-line" error displayed on Maxidot?

Also have you already done the IMMO adaptation? I mean the flashing IMMO light and so on?

My VIN didn't match either when I checked it before adapting the keys. After that it was ok.

Yes I do have that on the Maxidot. I have already done the IMMO adaptation but at the moment I am presuming that not to have worked.

If I go in and try to match a key now it won't allow me to.

(The green bits all check out OK)

[select]

[25 - Immobilizer]

[Meas. Blocks - 08]

Select Block 001.

[Go!]

The value in field 3 must be Yes. If value is No, the key is not capable of being adapted to Immobilizer.

You can check each key in this manner.

Select Block 003.

[Go!]

Make sure the shown lock times in field 1, 2 and 3 are 0 (each field represents a time in minutes).

If the lock times are NOT 0:

Do NOT switch off the ignition!

Allow the car to sit for AT LEAST the number of minutes that were indicated by the fields 1-3.

[Done, Go Back]

[security Access - 16]

There are 2 possibilities how to enter a PIN, choose the one that applies for you.

4-digit PIN

Enter zero followed by the 4-digit PIN. For example, if your PIN is 1234, enter 01234.

7-digit PIN

[use 7-digit PIN/SKC]

Enter the 7-digit PIN, Date on which the PIN was generated by the dealer, along with the Workshop Code (WSC) and the Importer number of the dealer that generated the code.

[OK]

VAG-COM will validate the data you have entered and return you to the Login screen, where the Login Code will show as "XXXXX".

[Do it!]

[Adaptation - 10]

Enter 001 in "Channel Number".

[Read] - At this point I get an error "Channel 001 not available"

The "Stored Value" is the number of keys currently matched.

Enter a "new value" corresponding to the total number of keys to be matched, including any existing keys.

The old keys are automatically beeing cleared.

[save]

[Done, Go Back]

[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

I am assuming most of this but I guess I can't adapt a key because the IMMO adaptation wasn't sucessful, or are you telling me different? Could there be a different reason that I can't adapt the keys?

OK, a little more investigation. VAG K+CAN Commander arrived today as it boasts to be able to match keys and adapt immobilizers.

It didn't work.. but I read the Immo EEPROM of both clusters and found something odd.

Old cluster (removed some information from every field, not that I imagine it would be useful to anyone)

attachment.php?attachmentid=26517&stc=1&d=1231329299

New cluster:

attachment.php?attachmentid=26518&stc=1&d=1231329299

Blank. Totally blank. Even PIN number is blank, seems odd?

Anyone got any further ideas?

26517.attach

26518.attach

Yes I do have that on the Maxidot. I have already done the IMMO adaptation but at the moment I am presuming that not to have worked.

I know this might be a stupid suggestion but do you have something in the equipment number field on VCDS options -> User interface and identification? If you have zeros on that field change the last zero to 1 or any number but zero. VCDS works in stealth mode as long as this is zero. When in stealth mode you cannot code some of the blank modules.

I wasn't able to do it until I changed the shop name, importer, WSC and equipment number. (Thanks to Stu for pointing this out then.)

But anyway, to your problem.

My experience was similar.

I had my cluster changed by a workshop but in the end I had to do it myself using their equipment as they couldn't do it past this immo error.

Everything else went fine except when the ignition was turned on the IMMO light started flashing and the immo end of line error appeared on maxidot.

I checked the vin fields from the adaptation channels and it showed the old serial and new serial in these fields. That indicated that the adaptation wasn't successful. Anyway we went on and started adapting the keys and presto. The error disappeared and the immo light went away.

After this I checked the channels again and now they showed the correct serials.

Did the IMMO adaptation complete succesfully? I mean the part where you input the new pin code and the immo light illuminates and the maxidot reads immobilizer adaptation active?

Which PIN code are you using to code the keys? Old one or the new one? I've had the channel not available error if the security access isn't correct.

I have just checked and I didn't have anything in User Interface and Identification. I've just changed that as you have suggested, didn't know that was relevant and I've been using VAG-COM for a good couple of years!

What has been happening is that I enter the login for the new cluster, go into Adaptation channel 050, hit read. The Immo light comes on and the display shows "Immobilizer adjustment active!" Then I wait a few minutes until the Immo light starts flashing again so that I can access channel 050 and put in my old (vehicle) PIN. I enter the vehicle PIN and the VIN number appears in the adaptation channel area at the top and the Immo light stops flashing again. I click Save and confirm, and then immediately the Immo light starts flashing again. The Maxidot shows the MFD function for a second and then goes back to "Immobilizer end of line error."

And JUST as I was writing that and doing the procedure in the car for the zillionth time.. IT WORKED!!

Mr Downtime, your suggestion wasn't stupid at all, you have saved the very little hair left on my head after this little ordeal. Thankyou!!

So, Maxidot in, problem solved, disaster averted etc etc. Man that's a weight off my mind!

Great. That's very good to hear. So now you have a working maxidot cluster :) Good job.

That never even occured to me in this case, I know it has been an issue for the Steering controllers and also the Columbus/RNS510 - Should have clicked onto that one!!

Nice work Downtime.

if its any help for anyone else, stu tried mine with the new codes for the keys when putting my maxi dot in and it wouldnt work (in a cold car park) so we put the original dashpod back in and the following day i tried again. for some reason it didnt like the new pin code and when i put the old code in used for the old dashpod it worked which was something neither of us thought would work as you needed the new code, any how i wasnt expecting it to work and was about to give up and it started. :)

I found that once I'd done the adaptation that the immobiliser took on the old SKC. Perhaps half of it had worked and the other half hadn't?
