going to look at a vrs, anything to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I had a mk 1 vrs up till about 9 months ago, and since then I've been pootling about in an audi A2, the audi is now sold and I'm looking at getting a proper car again,

I'm going to look at/buy (privately) a 55 reg vrs in red, its got the sat nav and maxidot, jumbo box, and cruise control

the miles are low (26k) and it does look nice, is there any little niggles/quirks I should be checking with the car, he did mention its on the minimum of oil, and he hasnt got any left because it does use a drop,

I havent driven one yet but will it be vastley different from the mk 1 vrs?

cheers

Assuming it's the one on eBay for 8k (was also on Auto Trader for a time) I nearly bought that one, but found my eventual VRS while we were still haggling over the price.

Does look like a lovely car and has all the toys - just bear in mind a) it has been advertised for a while now if you're making any offers and B) prices do seem to be very much on their way down.

Just for amusement:

Having just bought one of these I would check the following:

- rear tyre wear, are the insides worn unevenly if so it might need the rear camber adjusting to the revised Skoda figures.

- Check the cruise works properly as there have been some issues and the car has no warranty left.

- Ring Skoda UK with the reg plate and they will confirm the service history and tell you any warranty issues the car has had.

thanks guys,

timmy, it is the one you say mate, I'm not paying £8200 though, I'll report back tomorrow night, hopefully to say she's all mine :)

Yes, it was over 6 weeks ago now and it was up for £8500 - The £8200 offer was including a new MOT.

If he's got it up for £8k (and it's on 'best offer' on eBay too) definitely go in with an offer in the mid sevens :)

Best of luck!

I'll have to get used to overtaking again :) it really does pack a punch, didnt want to push it too hard tonight, it was showing minus 9 degrees outside,

Nice, get some pics up when its warm enough outside.

Welcome back into the fold!!

This ruddy weather is getting me down, I would like to give mine a bit of a squirt of the ol' gas pedal but dare not because of the weather.

The black ice caught me out last night and the rear end went from under me.. Luckily I was on a large roundabout and I managed to correct it with no harm done, aside from me needing new underwear.

Still learning to deal with diesel torque - entering M60 today from the silly right-hand-lane slip road at Bredbury, put foot down in second and was met with the mighty sound of ... er ... slipping wheels. Much flashing of the ESP light later, overtaken by skip wagons, and I reckoned on third instead!

Bring on summer.
