Multifunctional Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looks like the cold weather has brought out the gremlins again, in my Superb.

The multifunctional steering wheel has stopped working ie. cruise control and radio volume etc.

Had a look at fuse and it has not blown, although I'm not sure if I looked at correct one.

It is a 2003 Skoda Superb 2.5 Auto Diesel Elegance.

Can someone confirm the number of the fuse i need to look at? Any ideas what else this could be?

Martin

I don't know about the fuse but I can confirm that I have never known a car be so susceptible to electrical problems when cold. i have the same car and have had the following:

rear parking sensors pack up when cold

Maxi dot plays up when cold

Sat Nav screen plays up when cold

I am sure they will start working again as soon as the temp has risen.

And I thought it was just my car.

Last winter the airbag and parking sensor packed up, but a system reset at the garage fixed it.

I'm sure it gets colder than this in Czech Republic ;)

The electrical build standard of VAG cars is not good enough to allow all of these toys to work all of the time. The base models are just about OK if you are lucky.

Maybe this is part of the reason why VW Phaetons depreciate even faster than Mk I Superbs.

If you like toys, buy Japanese.

Hmm, we seem to be getting off subject here.

All I wanted was confirmation of which fuse was associated with the multifunctional steering, on the 2.5 model.

do you have manual for car ?

Unfortunately, no.

Thath fuse is for warninglights, cruise control, exterior miror, air condition.... so if that working fuse is ok.

It isn't just for the cruise control, it is all the radio volume / channel change functionality on the steering wheel that is not working either :-(

On the manual book for skoda superb it is fuse number 5 for that, i send you a pictures for that

I think that'd fix your problem right there...

It looks like it's just a supply problem to the wheel, IMHO.

No luck I'm afraid :(

Checked fuse and it looked fine. Replaced it anyway, just in case, but no joy.

Oh dear, looks like another expense at the skoda garage.

Thanks for all your advice guys. :)

I had a problem with the central locking.

Disconnected the battery for 5 minutes (make sure you have the radio code!). Reconnected - problem gone.

In the old days it was called 'logic lockout'.

Disconnect the battery - show it who's boss!

Agreed thats one of the first things I try these days, nothing like a good old reboot.

Other than that anyone with VAG COM can interogate the ECU for you, see if it throws up any codes plus you can check all the button functions.

Hmm... since when did VAG use Windows? ;)

I thought about disconnecting the battery.

What's the procedure for that ie alarms etc.

I do have the radio code.

I unscrewed the battery terminal. Left it for 5 minutes, then reconnected.

Only the radio code needed entering.

Try with battery... good idea

Disconnected the battery for 30mins. Still no joy.

If I remember rightly, the last time the cold disabled my cruise control, the garage said as soon as they ran their diagnostics, the fault cleared. So maybe this is a case of VAG COM. Is this somethng I can get hold of myself or is it a garage job?
