I don't have much problems chasing real hrs's LOL

I vote 182. See sig. As for Reno build. We've had 4 Clio's between us. Never had any problems. The reanultsport do have common problems mainly engine mounts but nothing major.

I find the 182 to be more comfortable than the fabia too. Dont get me wrong it is stiff but copes with the british roads much better than the fabia does. Currently getting about 33mpg with mized motorway, a/b roads, town driving.

Really though a fabia vrs would seem incredibly fast to me after a 1.0 corsa, plus it'd be much better to live with than the clio and a bit cheaper than the octavia. I also think the torque would be something that would really appeal to me :D

I had a petrol fabia 1.4 MPI beofre getting a vRS model, and the vRS seemed like a rocket ship in comparison! It will definatly bring a smile to your face, especially being able to accelerate up hills after always loosing power and slowing down in the previous car. Also, not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but the tax is only £120 at the moment so it wins there too.

If you dont require the space I would look for a fabia vrs as opposed to the Octavia due to cheaper tax/insurance/running costs, however neither will compare to the handling/fun of the Clio. It really depends on which is most important to you. To summerise

Octavia- reasonable daily running costs, high insurance, reasonable handling and pretty quick. Great load lugger.

Fabia- low daily costs, low insurance, ok handling, good mid range punch

Clio- reasonable daily costs, high insurance, great handling and pretty quick

Although I shouldn't mention it (given your age :) ), both Skodas will get you on the slippery modification route for little money.

I also suggest trying out the Panda 100HP its a cracking little car for the money.

Drive them all, and see which suites you best.

This is what i had thought of doing. Remap the fabia to 170bhp/300lb/ft torque and put a new clutch in along with arb's and coilovers and better brakes.

Does this then introduces reliability issues though as if i decided to get one with 60,000 mile + on the clock, surely it may not last too much longer?

Also, and this will be my final question hopefully (until it comes time to buy) what sort of condition would a fabia be in after around 60,000 miles. do things start going wrong regularly and start becoming costly?

FWIW it's worth I think you'd be mad to buy any car that's going to cost you that much to insure. There's plenty of time for fast cars when you won't have to fork out four figure sums just to insure them.

Out of interest ... have you got your own place yet? If not ... that's what you should be saving your money for. Get some real independence ... that's much better than some 'flash' car.

To be honest 1500 is quite cheap to me considering i currently pay nearly £800 third party fire and theft on my corsa and paid 1500 last year on my corsa third party f&t.

I dont have my own place but its not because i dont want one and havent thought about it. Its just a long long time away and a nice car in the meantime would be nice.

the easiest way to see it is that if you buy french you are inadvertantly contributing to the french government, 172 is awesome to drive, i can vouch for that, but they permanently sound like you are ragging the tits off it no matter what speed or gear you are in. Mk1 vrsmakes more sense to me

Cmon matey... listen to yourself. £1500 isn't cheap if you're paying £800 currently; it's nearly twice the price.

Being able to move out and get your own place will be a long time away if you spend money you could save.

I know it's all about priorities and personal preferences etc but I think you're wasting your hard earned cash.

Out of interest ... why don't you run through some quotes on the cars you like but with you being onne year / two years older and see how much they come down by. It may be that you see what you could save by waiting for a year or two etc and then reevaluate.

At the very least, don't even consider anything in a higher insurance group than the fabia!!!

I have done quotes for 2 years older and they come out at around £500 cheaper.

When I come to buy i will be a year older and my insurance policy will already have run 1/3 of the way through so hopefully i shouldnt have to pay a vast amount more though i know this may not be the case.

I will have to see anyway. When the time comes i'll give my insurers a ring, get some quotes and re-evaluate from there.

:)

Had both. The Octy is streets ahead; and has far more potential as far as tuning goes. The 182 (which is what I had) is fast and light, but near the top of it's tune (without spending mega bucks) whereas with a remap alone you'll see close to 220bhp from the Octy

And I bet insurance is less on the Octy as well

think carefully ... by all means go for something fun but find the compromise between living for the moment but not wasting huge sums of money! Good luck,

ps ... don't buy a renault

fabia is the most fun car i have ever owned, and the octavia the dullest,my last car wa a 400bhp gtst skyline and the fabia is more fun than that too, coupled with a few sensible mods,a driving course or 2 and NOTHING will get anywhere near you when you decide to have fun:D

Hi There, I Was In The Same Dilema Looking Between The Octavia VRS Or The Seat Leon Cupra...

I Picked Up a 52 Octavia VRS for 4.9k with 49000 FSSH On It From A Skoda Dealer..

I'm 21 with 3 Years No Claims - £600 fully comp.

Hope this Helps.

My dad and i actually had a look at a fabia to just see one for ourselves and my dad (who drives an impreza) actually said he enjoyed driving it so that says something :D.

I think i'm pretty much sold on one now. The insurance isnt much more than what i pay now, fuel would be equal, if not better and plus the tax would be cheap too.

glad you like the fabia but really fabia and the clio are totally different. Thats my view anyway.

Good luck with what ever you do. You'll have fun in either car. I have :D
