Octavia brake fluid light

Featured Replies

Hi

I am new to this forum, although I have used it in the past. The information is invaluable, so thanks. I have a problem. The brake fluid light flashes and beeps when I put the handbrake on. Any ideas? Do the back brakes need changing? If so how do I remove the drums.

Oh the car is an Octavia Estate 1.9 tdi.

Thanks in advance

Keith

The bleeping and flashing normally means the brake fluid is low so would suggest that as you need to check the wear on the rear brakes. To remove drum it's wheel off, remove the drum securing screw and 'simply remove' If tight then there use a screwdriver through the wheel bolt hole to push the wedge under the wheel cylinder up to allow the shoes to retract. This is all according to haynes so good luck

pretty sure there are no sensos on the rear (only sensor is on the front nearside pad). Therefore that would either suggest that your fluid is a bit on the low side, or that maybe all your pads (and shoes) are all of a bit on the thin side. However I might have expected a warning when braking, as fluid would be pushed to the front.

If you drive too far with the hand brake on, the car will beep at you.

My 110TDi has disks on the back, therefore I am guessing yours must be a 90?

Cheers

I had an idea it could be the brakes needing changing.

Whats the VRS like. Is it as good as people say?

Keith

oh.... a shepton mallet person - my parents don't live that far away!

In Evercreech really.

Shepton is just a bit too cold for me. Love Weymouth though. The skoda and me can often be seen at Chesil Beach carpark, the car getting covered in spray and me windsurfing in the harbour.

i am more likely to be seen on my mountain bike on the chesil, with the Octy in the garage keeping clean!
