*Sigh* it's MOT time, help?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Right, been told by my local garage that a chip they passed it with last year with and hasn't got any bigger because I measured it myself this time last year and just a moment ago, is causing it to fail. So my first question is: shall I slip them an extra £20 just to pass the damn thing??!! or more helpfully, how much will a new windscreen cost me??

Also, if anyone could help me out with the following:

Cheers in advance everyone.Really didn't need this!! I've just had to fork out for the mrs' car tax, then a water bill turns up, and now some bloke is trying to claim on my insurance for a rear headlight!! (That I didn't break!) They say things happen in 3 don't they??

If your fully comp your insurance should cover you for windscreen cover. Excess is normaly about £70. I'm on my 3rd windscreen, is the chip repairable??

I would think it's repairable... it's only microsupersmall millimeters bigger than an MOT pass. I'm fully comp, not sure if I've got windscreen cover tho... (Don't think I do), and won't it effect my no claims anyway?

Nope. That's the best thing about it. Check your insurance details just to be sure. I think it cost me a extra £20 for windscreen cover.

What insurance company are you with ?

I'm with admiral at the moment, just looked at the certificate and it didn't cost me anything extra for windscreen cover:)

A rear headlight? Is he an Italian soldier?

if your fully com you have windscreen cover. Its not an options is included on all fully comp policys

Yea fully comp means windscreen cover, took mine to auto windscreens, payed £75 excess fee, and got new window :D

Mine was only a small stone chip but with the cold weather, it soon cracked the whole window :(

Direcrt line, fully comp, charge £60 for a replacement and £10 for a stone chip in terms of excess.

How about a chip repair - usually free on fully comp, but SOME ins companies now insist you use their repairer .(Resin is injected into chip under pressure - windscreen is a good as new )

TIP-

Call into RAC auto windscreens and pick up an emergency chip repair kit(Perhaps other places do them too) .Basiclly a plastic circle you place over chip -keeps dirt etc out . If you can keep the chip site clean then chances are they'll be able to an invisible repair .

Regarding my other problem with my headlight... does anyone know if the plastic bit from a 2001 MPi would fit my vRS??? Are the headlights the same?
