just bought AP coilovers

Featured Replies

ive just took the plunge and ordered my suspension in the form of AP coilovers. doesnt seem like many people have them at the moment so ill look into getting a review as soon as i get them fitted in feb.

looks like i got them cheap as i think they are about to go up in price in the next few days:)

now the question is: how low do i take her,

what is the best compromise for 90 percent street driving, with 3-4 track days a year. i dont wanna be taking my sump off on humps etc or get jarred around too much.

what have most people lowered their vrs by

they adjust 30-80mm

Isnt the whole point of coilovers that you can adjust them according to application ie set them lower for the track and more realistically (say -30mm max) for the time it spends on the roads? Thats certainly what I used to do with 'em. :)

i will try to go up and down trialling it, but im also interestd to know what height other people run they're vRS

Eibach Springs go -15mm on the vRS IIRC, IMHO that was more than low enough for everyday driving.

Totally agree, especially if you have to navigate over speed humps as I do on a daily basis.

im confused a little.

with the AP coilovers being adjustable 30-80mm, i guess i have to lower it 30 mm at a minimum over standard, and thats double that of the eibachs, is that correct or am i looking into it wrong????

It depends on the baseline chassis they choose, the vRS is already 15mm lower than the other models so added to the 15mm of Eibach gives you the -30mm.

that would make a bit more sense. thats probably more than low enough in reality. i prob wont go lower than that unless im on an a nice smooth track.

  • 2 weeks later...

never mind the mards

slam it!

wind your overs bought half way then fit

and go from there

How do you adjust them when they are fitted? Do you have to remove the wheel? I´m concidering it on my Fabia2.

simonskerton.... how is the ride on the AP´s?

I havent had them fitted yet. im travelling down to Impossible Performance on saturday 24th to get them fitted. ill put up a post when I have given them a good run

if you have access to the undeerside of your car then yeah it can be done with the wheels on harder on the fronts

much easier to take the wheel off and ue a jack and tape measure to set it,

but for best performance it best to corner weight it but that a whole new cans of worms

and and one more thing to note if your going lower than 40/50mm you will need new tie rods that connect to the arb! or driveshaft chafing will occurr which is not good!

think i will ask them to keep them wound up to their highest settings, which i believe is 30mm lower than std, so i should be ok there

have a play with them till you get a hieight and setting that suits you everyone is different

for looks keep the sill level and low

for handeling have a the sill a little higher at back so a touch more weight is on the front to help combat understeer

got the coilovers fitted now.

firstly i cant tell a difference in the ride quality at all on motorway or around town.

It looks alot better now. its lowered about 15-20mm over std.

what i have noticed is a little more understeer on hard cornering so the RARB is going to be on order very soon. the steering was a little fidgity on the mororway, and i think my tracking needs a little tweaking as my steering wheel is off centre.

yep get your tracking done and maybe bring the front down a bit more to help with the understeer

rear antibar will help loads

prob go with the arb option i think. she sitting pretty low as it is, and im sure it'll drop a little more once it beds in.
