Roomster SE. Good Move or Not??

Featured Replies

After 7 fuss free years of 1.9tdi Fabia Estate ownership my wife is toying with the idea of changing to a Roomster.

The spec of her Fabia was an Elegance (estate) so the natural eqivelant would be a Roomster3.

On checking the website last night (and scanning the latest brochure) I see that it has now become a Roomster SE, OK, fine,, but WHY introduce the two tone dashboard and gaudy upholstery?

Do Skoda think that most folk buy a Roomster as a Fashion item? I would be inclined to err on the view that it is an excellent practical vehicle which should have an easy to keep interior ie, Onyx interior in the "3".

I know that there are a few stock Roomster3's out there to buy new but we would have preferred to get one with a few factory added extras.

She test drove a Scout but would prefer a 3.

No, I think most people buy a Roomster because they want a practical car thats good to drive, better value than most and don't want to buy a french MPV.

You need to figure out what you want out of it, if you want ESP (One of the best features you could have on any car) your better of with the Scout as it's standard (There will be no difference in the driving experiance) and most of them now come with the one colour interior and black onyx seats (Depending on the body colour)

Work out which ones cheaper with the options and find a dealer that will do you a deal. You should be aiming around £13k for a 1.9pd Scout/3 with a few options

Looking at the spec list on the skoda website the SE is not fully up to the 3 spec and the price reflects this. It was always a bit odd as the spec just clashed with the Scout. Looks like the Scout won the popularity contest.

I would get a Scout or stock "Level 3" if possible. Both have much nicer interiors than the 'SE'.

Did your wife say why she would prefer a '3' to a Scout?

Whilst she liked the roof rails on the scout she did not particularly care for the large amount of plastic stuck to the sides.

I'm glad we are not alone in preferring the interior of the level 3 to the SE.

Well, if your going to get one you will need to make a concession somewhere as it's either or being as they have stopped the 3 and all the 3's left are not going to be able to have factory fit options

I think I happen to have the only Roomster that is both :D

The plastic on the sides has a practical use. It helps protect against Carpark Nimrods.

... and stone chips and road tar. The Scout plastic bits are a very smooth plastic and clean really easily. I also think they make the car look a little more purposeful but it's all down to personal taste.

GK, if you know what options your wife would like, I'd take a trip down to your local dealer and they should be able to search all Skoda UK remaining stock, they might come up with something suitable...

Exactly. But if scratched it has to be replaced. There's no way of repairing it, apart in special shops for plastic casting, repair, painting, etc. I have a few barely visible dips and marks on the rear bumper, and in Skoda service they bluntly told me I'd have to replace the entire bumper. What an overshot :)

The plastic side trims I suppose she could live with but she still prefers the all black interior of the "3".

Dealer is now looking at what is available in remaining stock and also I have asked him to check what ex Skoda fleet examples are out there. (save a few quid) since we cannot specify factory extras

All black interior in certain Scout colours.

It shows up a lot less. I have done 35k in mine and parked pretty much all over the UK and the only scratch I have is on the rear bumper where I loaded a washing machine on my own

I want a Roomster when I save enough cash.

If you can hunt a 3 at a good price you can avoid the SE spec

Do any roomster 2/SEs come with the onyx/onyx dashboards as an option as in the Fabia?

I was also wondering how committed you are to a brand new car (nice of course!) when very good discounts are available on ex-demonstrators and I think there are a lot of them about.

The brochure is not too clear about the possibility of onyx/onyx. It seems to only allow two tone dashboard as far as I can see. The pattern on the seat covers is also a real step backwards in my (and wifes) opinion.

Dealer has found an ex SUK 2008 Roomster3 in storm blue which we are interested in at this point

  • 2 weeks later...

Looking at the prices off the 'New Roomster se and the 'old Roomster3, there is over £500 diff.

I am the proud owner off a Roomster 3 and are more than happy with it. I would ask Skoda as to why the so called new Roomster as less standard equipment than the Roomster 3 ?

Skoda are called the budget brand of VW so why do we have to pay new VW prices (ie Much higher for less eqipment) Things did not bode well when the Roomster and Fabia 1 were released without a glove locker with a lid (its like going back to the 50's) The seat covers are at best shocking. In Germany they have a Roomster van (Pratik) that has much better seat coverings!

Come on Skoda you have brought the Superb , new octavia into the 2000's so when are you going to bring the interiors of the Fabia , Roomster back into the fold.

Did you find yourself a Roomster yet G.K?

Hi, Yes my wife found an immaculate ex Skoda UK roomster 3 1.9tdi in storm blue metallic. 6 months old and 6000 miles on the clock. Sourced it through our local dealer and we are both very pleased with our purchase.. And it has an all black interior!!

Pleased to hear you found yourselves something.

Enjoy the car and welcome to the Roomster club :)

  • 2 months later...

I have to agree with some off the members re the inside of the 'New Roomster SE.

The patterns on the seats are shocking! also the fabias seats too. Take a look at the german skoda site...mmm Roomster sport! and Roomster 3. Why should we have to have second best.

Is a ploy by VW to cap sales of Skoda cars? I wonder.

I hope the updates of the Roomster and Fabia will have better interiors, and i have to ask as to why sell cars in GB with no glove lockers? truly going back in time

TBH a lock on the glove box is a waste of time, if they can manage to break into the car in the first place a weedy glove lock ain't going to deter them (a screwdriver usually does the trick) and if its locked they'll definitely break into it. I've never even used the lock on all the cars I've owned with locking glove boxes. The storage box under the passenger seat is much more sensible idea as its out of sight and theives don't go searching they just go for the obvious. If you have to store something valuble in your car then its better to invest in a proper car safe and locate it somewhere out of sight, usually in the boot or under the seats if possible.
