Issues with 1.4 MPI 8V

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Fab is an X 00 with 68k.

I love her, we've been together since July 06. The car is simple yet perfect for my requirements.

Historically only probs have been a New Power Steering Unit (£700) and a New Coil Pack and Battery.

After having the Eng Management Light on for some time;

Ive recently invested in the VAG.COM & Cable, which has highlighted these;

1.17549-Load Calculation Cross Check

2.16556- Intermittent Sys Too Rich , BANK 1

3.17743- Intermittent Engine Torqu Monitor 2 Control Limit Exceeded

4.16500- Intermittent Eng Coolant Temperature Sensor Value

I recently replaced the Thermostat as I took a guess my original had perished and yes not surprising it had, My temperature gauge now works and the heater gets hot much quicker.

I presume 3. was when the car last week went into Limp mode and the ECP warning came up suddenly lost all power when calling for hard acceleration. This has occurred only once.

4. My next port of call is to replace the Coolant sensor as clearly its on its way out.

Could anyone shed any light on the possibility of these faults being linked and perhaps a more serious issue here? When running generally she is perfect bar the low idle and hunting and occasional complete cut out.

Any advice much appreciated.

Lee

First thing to do is replace the coolant sensor, as it can cause spurious logging of fault codes with other modules. After that clear all fault codes, take the car for decent drive, then rescan for new codes. That way you are far more likely to get an accurate idea of what (if anything) else is wrong.

I had thought that be the case, one on order already! :thumbup:

I would recommend a throttle body clean and putting it into basic settings to improve the idle.

Just as a footnote I started her up this evening and idle is perfect at 1000rpm and no Engine Light on whatsoever, defo intermittent.

I had my engine light come on with consistent regularity, (read once every week or two).

Last time she was in for a service, I asked them to clean the throttle body, since then, (some 6 months ago), it has never come back on and no faults have been logged.

May be worth a shot before forking out for sensors, (that said temp sensor was one of the sensors I replaced and is pretty cheap).

These were definitely the two "favourite" codes my car came up with. ;)
