Columbus sat nav

Featured Replies

Rumour has it that there is a V4 nav disk floating around VW, that has the same maps but full postcode entry. I have no idea if this is correct, or if its possible to load these maps onto the skoda columbus.

From what I've been able to find out, the V4 disk was a "bug fix" release purely for the VW units.

Now as far as we all know the VW and Skoda units are the same with the exception of Red or Green lighting.

Unless it only affected the newer model....

...anyway, the V4 disk bug fixed - some people after installing V3 found they could only enter 3 digit postcodes.

V4 fixed it to the 5.

Is the Columbus unit in the Octavia the same as the one in the Superb that gives you a 30GB hard drive for storing music?

Well I cant imagine why I would want a DVD player in the car.

Traffic Jams ;)

Sure helps pass the time on the EuroTunnel ;)

With company car, I can understand why they'd want genuine OEM SatNav's fitted and not TomTom/Phone/PDA units or After Market units fitted - Much less change of having the car broken into by the low-lifes looking for their next £10 fix at the pub. Fleet insurances cost enough with out claims, add a few claims and up they go!

Yeah, We took a couple of DVD's along with us when we went to Europe last summer and we watched a movie whilst in the queue to board the ferry and what is usually a long and boring wait turned into annoyance when the queue started to move!!

Great picture and sound by the way.

Footnote... We have not had occasion to use the DVD player since!!

Anyone?

Well it's a 30GB HD yes - however 10GB is reserved for the SatNav system, so you've only got 20GB to store your music on.

Thanks, how many CDs worth would that be, typically?

expect roughly 80mb per CD. So about 12.8 albums per Gb.

Thanks, and one more question, can you put in Artist/Album and song titles, or does it do it automatically?

you can put them in manually or if they are in the ID3 Tags then it will automatically load them in (in the case of uploading mp3)

Well if the Columbus traffic system works then I shouldn't be caught in traffic jams so I still don't need the DVD.

Can you make playlists on the Columbus too like you can on an ipod?

You can't make them on the Columbus, however you can put them on the SD card or DVD/CD with your mp3s and they work fine.
