Brake fail

Featured Replies

This happens if water gets between the pads and disc, if the car and wheels have just been washed or has got wet while standing over night. Just lift of and re apply the brake. It will also happen if drivng for long periods in wet conditions with out using brakes. ie motor ways. When the brake is applied nothing happens lift and re apply. There was a tech bulletin about this once. There is nothing you can do about this, it happens with all cars. Especilly cars with alloy wheels which expose the brakes to the elements..

i have this problem with my vrs as well. i only drive it once every four or five days and i get it every time i drive away from home. if you look at the disks and they are showing quite a lot of surface rust chances are it will happen. i normally do a couple of 50-0 stops and they are sorted. but first couple of brakes coming out my road can be a bit hairy.(because they dont work) if i drive the car every day this doesn't happen.

Also talking to my mate he has a vx220 turbo and only drives it at the weekend and he has the same problems.

So i always check the discs if i haven't used it in a few days.

i had this problem for the last 2 days in my car where the car wont stop, initially I put it down to the snow on the road but then the snow cleared and the brakes feel pretty crap until a few applications are applied. If the car is at idle parked up I can apply pressure to the pedal and the pedal sinks slowly?

This has happened to my uncles 07 plate vrs and my 04 plate

the sinking pedal is normal, and is not an issue

and i'm guessing, but rusty discs would cause poor braking until the rust was cleared from the discs

i work in a garage and over the last few weeks when the weather has been bad the amount of people coming in complaining of the same problem has been unreal (even brand new cars) 90% seems to be because of the grit and dirt on the roads covering the discs, inside of the pads and insdie of the wheels. in some cases simply spraying all brakes with brake cleaner and doing a few emergency stops seems to cure it, others need to be stripped and cleaned properly some even needing the discs and pads changed. i advise when setting of do a few quick stops before building up any speed and first using the brakes at a junction corner etc. hope this helps

i see this as two seperate problems

1:- the hard pedal / loss of assistance when cold (servo / vacumm pipe related)

2:- grinding poor braking due to build up of surface rust on the disks

i have both and the hard pedal has been getting more frequent so will replace the servo vacuum pipe asap as i suspect the non return valve probable culprit

i am also about to replace the front pads so will have a good look at the system on the front brakes while doing the pads, time for fluid swap as well

if i find anything i will let you know

just noticed this is a fabia forum, my car is a roomster 2 1.9tdi, but i think it shares a lot of fabia bits
