JBS Turbos

Featured Replies

Hi

I've asked JBS AutoDesigns for details of an uprated turbo for my Fabia vRS and they have told me that they can "offer a hybrid PD130/150 turbo" capable of "up to 210bhp" with the standard injectors.

Does anyone know what this turbo is? Eg Garrett, Team Dynamics etc.

I asked JBS but they just said: "The turbo we use is a JBS hybrid, it has been developed with a reputable turbo company within the UK so the quality can be assured"

For 200bhp, would it just be better to go with a Team Dynamics MD347 and ask JBS to install and then remap it? (I have a FMIC, Milltek and 312mm.)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I think you might mean Turbo Dynamics :)

For 210bhp it sounds like a stage 1 GT1749VA (PD130) or VB (PD150) based Garrett unit. Whether you deal direct with JBS, or goto Turbo Dynamics yourself, it will be a Garrett unit.

What price have JBS quoted for the unit?

Steve

Personally, and with respect to JBS, I would go to TD direct and get the stage 2 rather than stage 1, to give an upgrade path if you do decide on bigger injectors or alternative fuelling methods like meth/water.

All depends on pricing though. TD stand behind their products and their core business is turbos. JBS also stands behind their products, but their core business is tuning not turbos, and they'd just send it back to TD or whoever their supplier is to get it sorted.

Regardless, it will be a fun drive :D

I am not after further modding, so I don't need an upgrade path.

Yeah, Turbo Dynamics!

Yeah, Turbo Dynamics!

We'll remind you of this in 6 months when you're asking about Stage 2 turbos !

For the JDS hybrid turbo:

Pricing for the Turbo,Gaskets,Oil and filter, coolant and Software [Custom Code] will be approx £1700 + VAT

Fitting of the above will be £250 + VAT

Definitely not going to pursue bigger injectors or alternative fuelling methods like meth/water.

I have a budget for new turbo, Milltek, FMIC, uprated clutch, diff + remap ONLY!!

Worth getting a direct price from TD, then some quotes for fitting/remapping elsewhere. Always good to have quotes to compare :)

Where are you based?

Steve

NW England, very nr to Awesome (who fitted the 312mm brakes)

Worthwhile the diff & clutch ;) JBS fitted mine at the time, nice job too :)

Did they also give you a price for 'just' doing all the work minus turbo supply? That would give you an idea on the budget you have 'left' for the purchase. Also make sure you push TD on price, as I'm sure you can get a price lower than their list price generally ;)

JBS will be fitting the Milltek, Forge FMIC, new turbo and then doing a remap.

The clutch + diff will be done before then by another supplier.

i'm sure unit 18 would happily fit your parts and provide a remap for a good price and they are a very honest and extremely talented mechanics :)

Wooow talk about doing it the expensive way....

FMIC can be fitted yourself pretty easily by following the Forge guide....

Id go to Turbo Dynamics and buy the stage 2 around 1100 IIRC then get someone to fit....

and as regards to a remap id be wanting Richard Washbrook to do it... and my local exhaust place fitted my Magnex for £15 :)

I would not pay 1100 for the TD Stage 2, a few years back that was the going rate but not any longer ;)

FMIC fitting sure, can be done with a bit of a helping hand where the bumper is involved, rest is pretty easy.

That said, the benefit of getting it fitted in one place is that that place generally will provide a warranty on the work in some shape or form :)

If you're able to travel to Unit18, definitely worth it ;)

Spill then... how much and where from

Direct from them, and years ago, and less than 1k incl VAT & delivery :)

Ooooo Ooooo... maybe might think about it then

Joking aside, I cannot remember the exact numbers as it was years ago now and a lot of stuff has happened since that has made me forget a few of these things :P

Best thing is to give them a buzz, also Jabba does a hybrid turbo kit, and it wouldnt surprise me if Awesome did as well. For the amount of work you are looking to get done, ringing around is well worthwhile, and if you dont mind a bit of a drive, Ross' place is highly recommended, the only thing I dont know on that front is the parts like the Quaife.

You dont have to worry about being able to put it together right, and the mapping on offer there is superb too, I'd drop him a PM for sure :)

you can get the diff from Jabba... also theyre's Peloquin from the states i believe

if it aint wheels Jasc is getting excited about it all things "stage 2" lol

New turbo's next on my list  (and a clutch) :)

Jabbasport will be fitting the clutch and diff and THEN over to JBS to do everything else at the same time - which is what I want (minimal hassle, even if it costs more).

Perhaps an obvious question, but why not get it all done at JabbaSport? They are much more familiar with dervs than JBS - imho of course - and unlike JBS are known for work on dervs over the years?

Your money, your choice obviously, but still, any reason?

JBS are nearer and I have paid a deposit on their Custom Code remap.

I'm also wondering whether Custom Code is the right choice for a hybrid setup? Have you discussed specific mapping requirements with them and that they are able to adjust the map to suit? Don't know of anyone running a CC map with a hybrid, that's all.

Steve

I ran a custom-code stage 1 with a stage 1 hybrid but I did not go for a remap to see what they could do with a stage 2 or custom mapping for the stage 1 due to lack of money and they are just too far away from me.
