The point about strobe timing, or my "by ear" method" is that they're both dynamic timing methods, and therefore allow you to remove any wear in the dirtributor as a variable in the timing.

I've never heard of timing an engine by vacumn depression before though?

let the car warm up, connect the vacuum gauge set idle to 650 rpm move dizzy till vacuum needle is steady (should be around 21' of mercury) reset idle to 650 and repeat process until idle doesn't go up, then accelerate the car to 3000 rpm and match the vacuum by adjusting the timing advance spring / vacuum system

test drive.. if hesitant, move dizzy til you gain 1/2' of mercury in vacuum, pinging, move til you loose 1/2' of vacuum,

best torque and acceleration possible with great FE, :) seccond only to dyno
