water from behind glovebox

Featured Replies

Hi FOLKS i'm new to the forum

Hi one of my cars is a w reg 1.4mpi. Its used by the girl friend and is a great little car.

However its got a leak-its not from the doors it appears to be coming in from behind the passenger glove box.

Its causing a bit of a leak in the passenger footwell.

Has any one got any ideas of a easy fix or what to look for,i've not been able to check anything myself as its normally dark when i get home

Thanks for any advice

Has the car got air con?

hi yes it has. i've just done a search and found some bits of info

Pollen filter -located under glovebox -perhaps ???( and that was what apprentice at local stealer suggested when I mentioned wet carpets and before I said rear ,with 17k on clock:rolleyes:)( well at least he tried -like time I took van into Ford dealer with headlight out -tech said nowt wrong - second pass round yard ,stopped by Appy to tell me heasdlamp out )

(Suspect Ford Techies are like Fords - "fix or repair daily " -unlike some techies on here )

Check plenum chambers are not clogged with debris.

Hi where do i find them

From my experience, and what i found was the debris. Open the hood and top right, and left corner, under the black plastic cover the 2 holes are getting full of leaves and whatnot. Clean those and you should be fine.

cheers thanks for that

Yep, plenum chamber is the most likely candidate from the symptoms you describe. Just do what Ludaaa said - you can either remove the wipers and scuttle panel (the plastic panel under the windscreen) and clean out the crud completely, or you can do as I did and use a hose (not a pressure washer! ) to break it up and wash it down the drain hole. Newspaper will soak up the moisture from the carpet in no time, but you'll probably have to go for a drive with the windows open and the heating right up to dry out the soundproofing behind the glove compartment...

HTH

(BTW, AIUI, the pollen filter leak applies to the old-shape A6s / Passats / Superbs rather than the Fabia, but I could be wrong... :ne_nau: )
