MPG and age?

Featured Replies

I'm sure my car is getting better with age... nearly 70k on the clock this morning and a gentle run over to leeds this morning (50miles tops) returned the following

Not just the age of your car ey Ian! ;)

Getting slower now you are that much older, hence the decreasing fuel consumoption

Question is that better than your "other" V8? ;)

i could plumb the tank striaght to the drain and it would be better than the othjer one....:D

Undoubtedly that is a factor, last personal best was 42.8 and that was trying to do an economy run over 120miles with aircon off etc, this morning was just "lazily making my way over" with aircon on and I got that over 50miles.

Bus pass for Mr Cooke... :D

Mine's definitely improving with age (or something's about to break) - averaged 44mpg going Manchester-Southampton at a leisurely pace.

Admittedly the same journey at a slightly quicker pace saw that drop to about 33mpg, but I've seen it quite a bit lower than that in the past.

Rob.

And i thought i was robbed after getting a avg of 52mpg thismorning

Oh, well, if we're comparing diesels... :P

Did Redditch to Shipston-on-Stour yesterday, 30 miles each way... Returned 41.8mpg, which I was very pleased with

Normally runs at low 20's

I'm almost on first name terms with the staff in the local Tesco's and Texaco garages...

Mrs C.J. squeezed 68mpg following me pulling the caravan back from Anglesey in June!

Granted I was only doing a steady 50-60 with no hold ups!

Previous day I'd managed a staggering 14 !!

At the engine or wheels and does it need to have been verified on a rolling road? My best mpg between refuelling stops is 33.71 - overall mpg is currently 31.48.

yeah not bad actually. was actually pleasantly surprised as was expecting worse.

Very interesting , but stu.... !

Anyone remember Rowan and Martin ?

Yes , I would agree that , WHEN driven gently , the MPG does appear to improve with age in the 1.8T , however , what is most interesting to me is the fact that this thread appears in August , for I would contend that were it to be February , these remarkable figures would not be evident . It seems to me that this engine does not perform nearly so well in the cold , when reviewing MPG .

Do the Czechs use old fashioned radiator covers these days in their winter freeze ups ?
