After fit Cruise control for Octy

Featured Replies

Greetings one and all,

Help required. I have ,at last bitten the bullet, and purchased an aftermarket cruise control stalk for my Octy Elegance estate. I purchased from eBay and from Jorily Skoda, you may have heard of them?. It is the genuine article and my questions are these.... I am led to believe its not too big a job to fit, although airbag in steering wheel needs disabling, but it will need putting on a VAG unit to make it work, unless it is already set up but just not connected. Am I making any sense here? A mate has also bought one and we had planned to fit them together so any help would be appreciated. By the way, mine is a 2002 1.9 tdi 110bhp, his is a 2003 2.0 tdi 130bhp.

Thanks.

I think you need the stalk, wiring and VAGCom to set it up. Don't think it is already enabled.

Not a DIY job mate, airbag ain't to much of a problem but connecting into the ECU is.

Do a search on here, there's a bloke who does it.

VRStu or Lummox do it - Octavia-vrs.com

Beat me to it!

I think it is easier with the TDi than a VRS as it has most of the wiring already but you will need to remove the airbag and steering wheel to fit the stalk. Cruise won't already be enabled or you would have an error logged and lights on (according to Lummox and he knows what he is on about). If your near Lumox or VRStu it's probably easiest to get one of those to guys to do it.

Is your mates a mkII? Could that be different to do?

2003 2.0 tdi 130bhp

I think that would be a 1.9 130 TDi.

Thanks,

I have been on the website and emailed my questions re fitting, time, cost etc. There are so many different opinions about ,it`s difficult to tell the wood from the trees!! some say wiring loom all there, just needs activating, some say extra loom needed plus activating.some even say may already be active, just needs connecting!!

The ECU will always need 'activating'. The TDi has the wiring in place from the scuttle connection box, you will still need a wiring loom from there to the stalk.

I think I`ve managed to source the extra wiring loom for just under 30quid, does this seem reasonable? The stalk only cost me £26.99, that would be under 60 quid for the two in total, and just a question of fitting. I`ve looked all over but cannot seem to find a step by step quide to install this, from disabling airbag, removing sterring wheel, where to connect extra loom etc.etc. Can any one furnish such aguide or point me in the right direction please?

Try VRStu's Fabia-vrs websites - see the links in his posts, there is a guide for fitting cruise to a fabia and I believe it is broadly the same. Also I'm sure there is a guide on here somewhere for an Octavia.

Well,

I`ve left my details on this VRstu`s website over a week ago.As yet still waiting for a reply. Have just bought a full set of 9 discs for VW/Audi/Skoda with all various software etc on and a mate has the VAG com software so maybe we`ll try it ourselves..

I'll PM you - I think I know the problem, do you use BT Internet?

Just dug out the reply which was just over 20 mins after you sent yours, I've forwarded it via another account.

For some reason BT Internet doesn't like my ISP and blocks email.

Just thought I`d let you know, cruise now fitted and working. After working out cost etc involved to get to either of VRStu`s places it made sense to go to local dealer, who I must say was more than happy to oblige, and didnt charge me the earth to fit it.

Yes, 90% of wiring was there ,just needed the loom from stalk to shuttle box, so whole lot (parts and fitting) came in at approx £210. I didnt think that was too bad.

Any one care to comment?

And thanks Stu for your input..

That's about the going rate albeit towards the upper end. I got someone from London to my door to do it for £150, though it should have been £170 he waived the travel fee as he had other work in my area that day :D
