Online photo hosting - anyone used smugmug?

Featured Replies

I've decided to bite the bullet and go a bit more "pro" with the various photos I take.

Up till now, I've used Welcome! :: Fotopic.Net for all my photos. They have been good despite a major downtime scare earlier this year. However, they offer some customisations and 200MB free of charge, but it's quite limited and if you want more space, it starts costing.

Other sites out there include picasaweb from google, imageshack.us, flickr and photobucket.com. There are others out there, I know.

However, my issue was that they all start charging if you want to either increase your space or remove all the ads which appear next to your photos.

So searching for alternatives, I've come across zenfolio.com and smugmug.com

I've just started a smugmug trial account and it's absolutely fantastic. They support an entire range of CSS-style customisations so you can present your photos however you want, including flash slideshows and whatnot. You can also link to your own domain if you want, and they have no limit on how much you upload. OK, a basic account costs $40/year, but for unlimited storage, it's not bad. I'm trialling the power user account to have the ability to link from my domain and have customised favicons, etc.

Worth a look IMHO :)

If anyone's interested, here the one I'm working on: xavimages' photos- powered by SmugMug
