£150?! Blimey, good price

My thoughts as well.:)

Was it a special one-off in your local or something? Or are they generally available from ASDA for that price?

Not sure to be honest. I think it was nationwide. It was in the photo centre bit.

The AspireOne is a national offer... i picked one up yesterday ;)

Good look tracking one down tho.. has been posted on HUKD so the vultures have moved in!.

If your lucky, the harporhey store on rochdale road may have one... i got mine from Slough

And ive just pursuaded Apinner to go get himself one from scunny

Yep.. just picked one up!

Currently downloading ubuntu :P

I'd wait personally, they are quite a new thing and the next gen ones will be so much better.

Thats always the case with technology tho.. always something better a few months away... but bearing in mind that these are about 100 notes cheaper than their nearest rival anyway i think its a great deal.. im loving mine!

Agree with you there..... whatever & whenever you buy things like this it's always out of date within the next few months. I must admit the Acer is a great unit for the price you've paid i just want something with longer battery life.

The Acer is a good option for someone wanting it as a new smaller laptop rather than an extra laptop etc.... like myself.

Cheers

Dave.

I have ditched Linux and loaded XP. It was going to be dual boot but I got it wrong.:o

It runs XP no problems and I used it last night with VCDS as planned.

You can buy much larger batteries for around £50 if that is what you are after. I did think about a memory & HDD upgrade but the amount of work easily outweighs the benefits.

Ubuntu installed, so much better now!

Only thing i dont have working is the wireless LED fix?

Works for me as an activity monitor altho it needed a full reboot rather than the sysctl -p

Check out this page Installing kuki linux kernel on ubuntu 8.10 | Kuki Linux

Used that kernel to sort my mate's Aspire One. Have to say it's a hideously slow little thing though - it's just the one slow 16Gb SSD where my 901 has a fast 4GB SSD for the system and a slow 16GB for data. It is cheap though.

Also, the wireless card in the Acer is a bit ****, lots of people replce it with an intel one you can get for about £20 - dabs.com - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - network adapter (WM3945AGM2WB)

Solved it,need a sudo infront :P its now blinking away happy!

Have you installed the remix stuff Col, is it any good? I seem to be getting on ok with the standard ubuntu interface. I made the X11 changes which helped a little.

Yeah i installed them... they aint great really.. its just like having the icons on desktop, but the effects cause graphical issues even without maximus.. am popping over to MD after work to grab another gb of ram for it :)

Well my wireless has gone tits up! It just wont do anything..

i have tried doing the wireless installation again but no luck! :(

Thing is trying to make me look like a liar.. switched it off for 10 mins and its back

managed to get skype on as well :D I also like the way we have completely hijacked this thread!

Where they fail is on battery life, now if someone was to make the lid with a solar panel in it to recharge itself when it's sitting around doing nothing I'm sure that would be a winner.

Lol.. as if your going to leave your laptop out on show when your not using it!

mind you, it probably wont attract as many grubby fingerprints as the lid of the AAO!

Just ordered another gig of ram for mine.. :D
