Help! Problem with MFD

Featured Replies

Hello there, hoping someone might be able to help me out with this one!

As some of you may have read, with the help of this forum I installed a MFD1 in my ’04 Octavia VRS before Christmas and was really pleased with it once completed. However, for some reason the navigation got ‘confused’ at the end of last week and now won’t work properly.

The issue is that the unit can’t seem to locate my position anymore. When you enter the symbol display under the navigation menu, it only displays an arrow with no road names. If I then try to navigate to a destination, it works out the route and gives me a realistic arrival time, but doesn’t display any road names or give any audible directions, instead just displaying ‘not on road’. The map view also fails to accurately show my location and doesn’t move along with the vehicle.

Like I say, until last week it was working perfectly and I can’t think of anything that could of happened to change this (the cloudy overcast weather shouldn’t have an effect should it?). I have removed and inspected the navi disc (which I bought from TeleAtlas so it is genuine) and also tried entering my location manually with no success. I have noticed that the units ability to pick up satellites has become a bit erratic, often dropping temporarily to less than three.

Anyone got any thoughts? Is there a procedure to ‘reset’ the devise or anything? Really frustrated as I really liked the unit before it started playing up and I’ve got a multimedia interface on order!

Sometimes these problems are down to read errors on the map disk, I would suggest trying to copy it onto another brand of CDR media and try the replacement instead.

Do you think copying the disc is worth trying?

As I said, my disc is a genuine brand new Blaupunkt original and has been working fine up until last week.

You might come up with problems with tyring to copy the disc, I have heard that they have a copy protection system on them (other than just 'do not copy' on the label).

Is there another genuine disc you can try, CD's can get over-worn by constant use on the same bit (bit like playing the same track on a CD over and over)?

I would suggest also a CD head cleaner for the unit (although I dont know if this is recmnd, there may be some reason why you shouldnt use these)

Failing that, what I would do is take the HU out and pull all the wires out, check the connections all the way to the GPS sensor if you can. Hopefully pulling the power out completely (rather than just switching it off) might cause the unit to do a reconfigure, in case its the HU just confused by an eroneous bit of info from the disc

Hope that helps ;)
