vag 5053 scanner question

Featured Replies

I have taken the plunge and bought one of these readers.

Now my question is about the aftermarket radio i have in my car which was fitted with a harness adapter from halfords.

Am i likley to experience any issues regarding the K-Line on a fabia vRS 2003 model, if it has a k-line that is. As i have read both here and on ross-tech that it could fry the scanner:eek: and that would just about finish my temper off right about now:thumbdwn:

I do have a 3rd party lead and shareware version of vag-com and that seemed to work albiet intermittenly, without any undue problems regarding the car or radio.

Any info would be great to put my mind at ease.

Regards

Simon

Anyone ???:(

You read the Ross-Tech info. If you have not remedied the situation regarding the aftermarket radio, you may cause damage to any diagnostic tool plugged into the diagnostic port of your car - even the factory tool. When Ross-Tech found this problem, it was as a result of people damaging our tools. So we made design changes to our products and published the information for others to consider. VW's tool designers also changed their tools for this problem.

Don't know the VAG-5053. Why don't you contact the supplier and ask them about it?

Yes i read the article about the radio problem on the ross-tech FAQ and understand what needs to be done there. but surely with a vw conversion lead to the harness, would i still get the same problems.

The shareware version of vag-com seems to be working ok now without any problems with a 3rd party interface, so i would assume its ok ? No ?

If you were using one of our interfaces, I could say without a doubt that you have resolved the aftermarket radio problem. With other vendors product? I could not begin to say.

Did you do the voltage check that the article suggested? If you did, then you should be fine.

Thankyou for your kind help regarding this, I removed the radio and found that the K-line is not connected through the harness adapter after all.

I have checked the vag5053 on it and all is well.

Many thanks for your input it is much appreciated
