Featured Replies

Only a small review on the new model but the estate with the new 1.4 turbo petrol engine got 5 out of 5.

Is there a link anywhere or copy?

Flicking through a car mag recently in Tesco, there was also a comparison of luxury cars from Bentley down to the Superb, and they absolutely raved about the Skoda's value for money compared to the others............sad thing is I can't remember which mag it was in !

it was last weeks Autocar

I bet that was soooooo slooooooow

What Car's conclusion is :-

"Compact estates don't come much better than this ***** "

Figues quoted

Price from £13390

Power 122bhp

0-62 mph 9.8secs

Top speed 125mph

Economy 42.8mpg

Insurance group 8

They also suggest starting negotiations at £1500 off the asking price, and haggling down from there

I bet that was soooooo slooooooow

You shouldn't be so quick to make comments without reading the facts... - The new supercharged/Turbocharged 1.4 tsi VW engine (122bhp) is anything but slow. Read the review!! :)

The 1.4 TSi is meant to be a corker by all accounts ;)

Scanned this, may have to enlarge to read.

Has any one driven the 1.4 TSi yet? DSG option due in Feb

Still slow compared to a vRS mate.

Less chance of a blocked DPF though:D

Pretty sure the 122 BHP version of the 1.4 TSi is turbo only, I think the ? 160 BHP verison in the Golf GT is Tubo+super charged.

Think that is correct - the fact that they are both designated 1.4 TSi's is rather misleading and causes some confusion by leading you to assume that the "T" is for turbocharged and the "S" is for supercharged. The 122PS having turbo only and the 160PS having both.

I've not heard of anyone with a CR TDI have any problems with their DPF.

Not everyone wants or even needs VRS performance though and is happy suffering with the associated fuel economy costs!

The 1.4TSi has to offer the best all round economy/performance of any engine in the range now - heard great things about it from people who have played with it.

Sounds like a no brainer and a great replacement for the normally aspirated 1.6 petrol unit. :)

Same thing with the 1.8TSi - first dealer I talked to thought it was also supercharged/turbocharged.

Well they should do, what is the matter with them?

Think the new Golf gets both the 1.4 engines, I've seen a few with silver TSI and a few with a red I in the TSI.

Glad to see all the manufacturers getting rid of their old low output engines for smaller, higher output ones. Though all those turbos will spell trouble for those who aren't too careful with servicing (IE most people).

there's tonnes of cars quicker than a mk2 diesel vRS, so that must also be sooooo sloooooow

I drove a 1.4TSI SE hatch about a fortnight ago. A local dealer had just got one in and kindly offered me the chance.

My view is based on somewhat limited experience as it was going dark, the traffic was getting busy and I never got away from urban and B roads an never got above 50mph if I recall.

However, within those constraints, my impression was almost entirely positive. I had another adult and a child on board to give a rough idea of load. The engine was surprisingly responsive, feeling quicker than its 120bhp. The benefit of the turbo charger was clear: plenty of torque delivery from lowdown and in a wide range.

The engine was extremely quiet, and the overall refinement, both noise and ride was impressive, with just a little road noise from the front tyres and perhaps some induction noise.

The usual Octavia virtues of comfy ride and assured handling were there, probably helped by the smaller 15" wheels.i'd be interesetd to see how it managed at higher speeds with a bigger load

My wife, who's not very interested in cars, described it as "very impressive"! and for about £13,500k it certainly is. For most purposes it's hard to imagine you'd need much else.

I'm looking forward to trying it with the DSG next month. I did wonder if the engine had any margin for modest remapping, and if this would be OK with the DSG.

I hope this is of interest. Cheers.:)

Jonno, I think you're not taking into account that some people don't buy a vRS because it's designed to be used as a joint car occasionally and SWMBO might drive like a complete tw*t when they're given a 200 brake car!

Now, i'm not saying that's why I bought the 1.8tsi.

...but it might be! :ignore:

Quick enough for me, and quicker than most.

That could be taken as slightly condecending to the fairer sex me thinks
