VAGCOM For The Price Of A Mars Bar

Featured Replies

I've been looking on e-bay at workshop manuals.

Only thing is, you need to buy an OBD2 cable (I think that's what it's called from memory). Now, I've asked a few other questions and this turns out to be a "freeware" version of VAGCOM by Ross-tech.

So, here goes. Would this be enough to enable me to carry out simple diagnostics on the car such as gear oil changes on a DSG for monitoring oil temp etc and where the hell do I buy the cable and how much? What limits would be imposed by having a freeware version of the software:confused:

Short answer... no

You need the full blown VCDS cable due to MKIIs using canbus.

Please don't discuss counterfeit software here.

stu is this in faq as this question seems to pop up alot? and about fleabay leads?

It's in the users list for sure, not sure on FAQ.

The e-bay leads are non genuine and any version of VAG-COM from 5.0 or above won't work with these.

Any version above this requires you to have an interface that acts as a dongle IIRC.

As already stated the Octy II required either the Micro-Can or Hex+Can interfaces, which can be purchased from ROSS-Tech or one of their UK retailers.

it was just an idea stu so anyone else that asks can be pointed to a sticky or faq??
