Front number plate surround - paint?

Featured Replies

I've always thought that the front black plastic number plate surround on the Fabia rather let the front of the car down. Has anyone had it painted to match the bumper? If so, how is it removed and what sort of paint was used? I've also wondered about painting the black plastic bumper inserts, they seem to be manufactured from the same dimpled black plastic.

I painted my octavia bumper inserts and door mouldings and they look great, a vast improvement over standard imo.

if there anything like the octy bumper mouldings then you will find they just pop out and any bodyshop will be able to colour code them for you,the only difference from painting anything else is that they use a special plastic before painting,a recomended mod in my opinion because the mouldings always fade and when there painted you dont have to mess about cleaning excess wax off them after cleaning

I agree entirely, but I did mine myself as I am a painter in an accident repair centre. Just take them off, key with fine stuff, use plastic adhesion promoter and I applied "hi build" primer to cover the stippled texture so they are smooth and then sanded again before four coats of finest skoda yellow and two coats of laquer. p.s also did something similar with the chrome part of my grill.

Thanks for ideas. I've had another look at the black bits on the Fabia front bumper. They seem to be part of the bumper and 'plastic welded' to the shiny part of the bumper. It looks as if the bumper will have to come off to get at the 'welds'.

Did you get this done in the end? If so, how did you go about taking off the black bits?

Cheers

I had mine done on my silver VRS. I can't upload the images as the file is too large.

Send me your email by PM and i will send you the pics if you are interested.

Cheers
