Octavia II update from Car Magazine

That is tempting! I would much prefer the choice of a 4 wheel drive estate but do not like the look of the old 'Scout'. But this looks much better and the 1.8 turbo petrol unit is actually faster than my vRS TDi!!

Can't help thinking if they ditched the 4WD and added a 7 speed DSG, a sort of Sub vRS model.

It may be similar to 60 but the vRS will be quicker in gear - more power and more torque.

The 1.8TSI is available with 7speed DSG, but only in L&K trim unfortunately. 17" wheels, but not sports suspension. And more expensive than a petrol VRS, and £10 cheaper than the diesel I think!

To be honest I think the only thing, performance wise, that lets my car down, and quite badly really, is lack of grip/traction when caning it. 4 wheel drive would be sooooo good. I think I would even go for the chip then as well but now there seems little point as the wheels would just spin even more !

Limited slip diff would help massively and would cost around £1300;)

....and 10% more weight against 6% less BHP! Performance is generally about BHP/ton. Power = RPM x moment (torque) & as long as an engine torque curve is properly matched to the load (by correct gearing at any given road speed vs.rpm ) - overall acceleration will follow suit (all other things being equal)

e.g. it is incorrect to say a "petrol VRS is slower than a Derv. VRS , because at 60 mph in 4 th gear the TDI has better acceleration due to more torque" - drop a gear in the petrol VRS & the picture becomes different!
