i presume that there shouldnt be any trouble fitting this with the Octavia having a full double din space, just the shelf to remove, or am i missleading myself here...

anyone have one at all? or know of a better price... the thing i like about this unit is the fact the front panel can be removed

having been on the receiving end of thieving scum with an old sony unit i had a few times... that really is a good selling point

errr no i have mk1

it says removable, but does the whole 7" screen come off? as its a bit cumbersome, you coudln't carry that about easily, so you have to dump it in the car somewhere?

unit looks good though, i had the jvc avx2, which like that unit, has GIGA mp3, so you can load 4.5gb of mp3s onto a dvd disc and listen to them all and navigate around them easily.

or use a 4gb usb stick, any bigger than that and you might have power issues, however i expect you could use bigger sticks.

Yeah it all comes off... and from another you tube video i saw its comes with a kind of laptop sleave type bag, tbh after having a sony HU (the active matrix display if you remember them?) which didnt come off, they tried three times to get it, alarm went off everytime, just leaving me with hastle of a side window to get fixed... so what am saying is i dont mind taking it with me

thanks for the above link, ive watched the first one, and was impressed, saw the 2nd and couldnt think what the parking brake would have to do with the unit, now i've actually watched it , it all fits

i'll do my best never had a problem with any other units in my time, and have fitted a fair few now. Am i right in thinking that the wiring loom for the VAG car means you have to swap a yellow and black cable over, so that the hu remembers tuned stations etc...

i vaguely rmember having to do that in last octy :rubchin:

yeah i really liked my AVX2, was a good unit, even with the small screen it was great quality and very watchable when sitting in the front seat (3.5" screen - single DIN). very good sound quality too!

i saw the laptop bag thing in the "unboxing video" on youtube, which looks nice.

on my AVX2, JVC had actually made a male spade connector onto the back of the unit, so all you had to do was take the female connector on the parking brake wire and push fit it onto the male connector. obviously they dont mention this fact in the manual etc, but its clearly deliberate

i still don't know what on earth i would do with it when its removed :lol:

Sorry mate my mistake!

I changed my stock headunit and found the wiring a little snug when I put my new unit in.

On some units with screens you can connect the handbrake wire to an earth which enables viewing whilst driving. Obviously at your own risk!!

You can get aerial boosters from ebay for about £7. Silver cylinder, aerial connection either end and a blue wire attached to it (which goes to the remote on blue wire on the headunit.)

the only lame thing about this unit is the bluetooth has to be an optional extra, at £70-80 that isn't cheap.

i personally would get the JVC AVX33, which has the 3.5" screen instead, USB port, ipod control, bluetooth built in etc, fine for front seat viewing of dvds, passable for back seat ones too.

I've just purchased one of these, they're going for about 340 quid on ebay at the moment

car audio direct are the cheapest place for new ones at the mo at £340.

ebay new ones are more, 2nd hand ones obviously less, though i havnt seen any going on ebay 2nd hand.
