Skoda in Worthing are lovely!!!!

Featured Replies

Cutie has just passed her MOT   Had to have the gaitor done (it was an advisory on the last three MOTs so was expecting it) and that was it!! :D

Advisories: tyres, number plate becoming illegible, and a Macpherson strut on front suspension.

So going to treat her to new tires (I know it could wait but was expecting to pay a WHOLE lot more today), sort out the number plate, and when things have calmed down house-wise, will sort out the rest.

My baby did me proud! :D:D:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

stock are 165/75R13, i use 175/75R13 (switch back and forth) and the diference in FE is neglible but they do grip a bit better and look nice too if you have stock rims 185 will look puffy and 195 ballon like so i dont recomend (plus RR is going to go up and if you dont have power steering is going to be a pain)

congrats for cutie passing her exam, maybe she deservs those "Daisy" hub cabs ;)

All sounds reasonable :) I presume the front strut is due to cup corrosion.

The price I saw displayed in Skoda dealer's not long ago seemed quite reasonable for tyres. Think it was something like £30 a corner for budget 13" rim tyres.

Stock in UK is 165/70 R13. My tyre place sells 13" budget ones at £25 might even be £30 now. I paid £80 at another tyre place for 2 Fulda tyres.

Front suspension you're prob looking at £150 (£75 a side parts and labour) to have that replaced when the cups really do corrode. Mine corroded all the way through on one side but didn't get to the point where the car was sat on the wheel.

My front suspension is on the scavenging list, but that will taken off when it reaches its' final resting place

Think I'm gonna tootle down to Fields for the tyres - they do a nice range, and are speedy, never treated me like a 'girly' i.e. talking down to me! :D

Have just spent a pleasant hour experimenting with various number plates - yes, I know I'm a big kiddie!! Fortunately for me, you can't buy online unless you have various documentation, so that may well have saved me from some of the more extravagant number plate options. Methinks gonna visit Halfords and get a bog-standard one - the tyres will have to be Cutie's treat

my bad, you're right, 165/70R13, i got 175/70R13 installed (3% more diameter) but it does not affect the odometer, brakes or speedometer looking to put some 15" Rims and 195 tyres like baby frog (i forgot the nick :s)

Plates in Halfords are VERY expensive. I think you'll find a Skoda dealer will be cheaper :-) plus you'll get all the Skoda dealer livery at the bottom. Remember if you just get plates you'll need to drill holes, or if you're lazy you can get a number plate surround, screw that on to the car, then your plate clips on.

The one in Worthing seems a bit dinky - will check out Rivervale in Portslade then! Ta Anewman :)

AGH!

overload of dodgy information!!!

lets start with the plates... anything except 100% bog standard will get you an MOT fail and FPNs from the police. Some places are all too happy to sell you anything you like but there is only ONE acceptable standard anymore. Dealers often use "metro" style plates and these are illegal, so be careful. theyre they slightly shorter, fatter letters that look a bit more appealing but will get you a fail next year.

halfords licence plates are £14.29 each by the way.

and instead of drilling your plates, which you dont have to do, you can use sticky pads which cost about a fiver for 2 packets and you just stick one side to the plate, and one to the bumper after you've cleaned it!

Please DO NOT get budget tyres. they are more costly in the long run and a sore point on small skodas. They dont have the same grip as decent tyres and are universally pretty useless in the wet. Falken/Pirelli/Bridgestone all do relatively inexpensive tyres to fit the felicia and improve the handling incredibly over cheap ones made out of old tescos bags.

seriously.

Someone on here Number plate farce: Motoring Discussion forum says plates from a Skoda dealer were £9.99. Not sure if that's per plate or for the pair. I doubt dealers would currently be issuing non-compliant plates which would fail an MOT as they would have herds of people coming back complaining. [Although when the Government announced intentions to legalise things like the St George's cross (which in fact they did not do eventually) dealers seemed all too happy to dish out plates with things like this on on request. Suppose that's the Government's fault for promising to make something legal and even giving a date]

try setyres for your tyres, they are normally very good on price

Morning!!

Wing mirror got knocked off (just the mirror not the whole casing) so off to Halfords I tootled. Got replacement mirror, number plate, and fitted for £20 - result! Went for bog standard, no GB sign or anything. Was going to treat her to the car wash, but the one at Sainsburys was broken :(

Tyres will be weekend after next - need time to save up my pennies. There is a Setyres down the road from my OH, but I imagine I will end up going to Fields because they seem to be competitive yet still sensible. Thanks peeps :D

What are Metro style plates?

What are Metro style plates?

Indeed.

Also, personally I'd get the struts done as soon as possible, cos the results of one failing (say because you hit a big pothole you didn't see on a dark wet night) don't bear thinking about! We like you after all!

We like you after all!

omg that reminds me has the immortal question been asked yet??;)

Nah I think thats reserved for the 14th Feb!!! ;)

The suspension cups are a failing point. I had one corroded where I could stick my finger through the hole!!!!

The other side was a little corroded just not as bad.

You will be looking at £150 (My Skoda garage and Kwik Fit were identical on price) to have both front ones done.

Very considerate, Cap'n, that you didn't mention the 14th of March :duck:

Forgive me the threadjacking, Shiloh :o and congrats to the MOT outcome. If the MacPherson strut advisory has anything to do with a corroded cup, Mr. O'Neill's remark is worth taking note of - see http://briskoda.net/favorit-felicia-fun-forman/skoda-felicia-damper-failure/77263/

Or at least get a second opinion - it could be that the corrosion has just started. But not worth taking risks since the front damper must be replaced sooner or later.

Sorry been MIA. Am waiting to hear if my landlady wants her house back - if she does, I need to throw a chunk of money into a deposit/moving costs. If she doesn't, I can put Cutie in to get the struts sorted. Just hope nothing awful happens in the meantime....

...and what immortal question?!!!
