Facelift - how is sound proofing

Featured Replies

Having owned a lovely Mk1 for 5 years I bought Mk 2 nearly 3 years ago and eventually got rid of it because the road noise and interior noise from resonances on our delightful roads was worse than Mk1 and frankly I just couldn't put up with it - so having just spotted that the Octy has been facelifted I wondered if anyone knows if Skoda has addressed this (frequently mentioned) failing in the Mk2 Octavia - I loved my Mk 1 and would like to return to the Marque but I just couldn't put up with the biscuit tin body shell even after I had stuffed it with sound wadding !:)

i don't know if Skoda have increased sound insulation on the facelift. However I recently drove the facelifted model with the new 1.4TSI and it was commendably refined if that's any indication. The fact that it was a hatch and had 15"wheels may have helped. There was a little road noise from the front tyres above about 40mph if I recall rightly, but that was virtually all I could hear.

I added soundproofing to my Fabia vRS and it was not that expensive to do. Lummox/Ross has redone it and added some more for the big reshelling job. Put it this way, if it means you'd get rid of the car because of the noise, I'd seriously look into getting some fitted or fitting it yourself. I'd imagine for the Octy it would cost less than 300 quid and that is if you get some to cut/fit it for you.

Have a look in the ICE section as well, there is probably someone who has done this :)

if its of any help...i bought the facelifted oct 1.8tsi dsg. i did not do any test drive on it! car dealer had only a suberb 2.0 tdi dsg available for test drive. just wanted to check out dsg so i gave it a go... i can say that the suberb, even diesel, was extremely quiet!! i was very impressed....i can imagine octavia would be fine too...at least i hope so! delivery is schedule for end of march...looking forward...

get a boot mat for for the Octy II, it quietened mine down very well - :)

I noticed the noise problem when I took a mark 2, 2.0tdi for a test run. When Isugested this to the salesman he said he though the car very quite. I f the sound proofing had been better I would be running around in it now. I was later told of a sound proofing outfit but it was too late then.

The fabia was quieter VRs, drove them back to back.

Steve.

Yep,

The biggest difference on the Octy II for me was when I did the spare wheel well on the base and sides.

That was then followed by the boot floor and under the rear bench.

how about the facelifted oct....is it quiter in the petrol and diesel motors? anyone with the facelifted mod care to comment?

I cannot get over how peacefull my Mk2 vRS TDi is to drive. I was talking to SWMBO via the Parrot system on the sun visor and all I could hear was the sat nav chattering away in the back ground. SWMBO was doing 70 with cruise on down the M25 in Essex
