Hi all

I bought a 2.0TFSI vRS in November, 56 plate, 2 years old, from Progress Skoda in Bedford.

It's on variable servicing (according to the service history) and was last serviced in October 2008 with 16200 on the clock.

In December I bought a Bluefin remap, and the car has been going really well.

However today my service indicator light came on, saying 500 miles till next service.

I have done 1200 miles since the last service, was wondering how this is possible?

Looking at the fixed/variable info, my driving pattern seems to match the fixed service, as I do frequent short journeys, and have been driving it more aggressively at times (checking out the Bluefin ) but always keeping the revs below 4000 till fully warmed up.

I'll be giving the dealer a call on Monday to discuss, but has anyone else experienced this? Could they have set it to fixed by accident on the last service?

I know the Bluefin will reduce the service intervals, but 1200 miles seems a bit short.

The car still drives great, no problems at all.

16200+1200+500=17900. This is within range for variable service. My guess is that it was serviced before the service indicator came on and it wasn't reset.

Exactly the same happened to me - bought used Elegance with 14k on the clock, variable service done before I picked it up. 3500 miles later the service indicator came on.

Take it back to the dealer to reset it but make sure they don't do it with the trip counter unless you want it on fixed service. That is what they did with mine so 9k miles later the indicator came on again.

I don't have a problem with regular services, (just not every 1200 miles!)

Would be worth while, but depends how you feel about the cost.

Maybe change the oil and filter with genuine longlife oil and genuine oil filter. Between the variable service if you were to keep the variable schedule.

Dont know if the warrenty would be effected by doing so though.

Would that not screw up the oil monitoring sensor though?

It doesn't, but do an oil change yourself and they may decide that you have voided the warranty.

Dealer services are expensive so I would want to avoid the dealers for the next service.

If you were likely to do more than 8800 before the warranty expires, I would leave it on variable and get the service done elsewhere (or yourself) as soon as the warranty expires. Then switch to fixed.

If you will definitely do less than 8800 I would set it to fixed now.

Personally, I would do the service myself as it is not that difficult.

What's your annual mileage?

If 12,000 miles pa or less I'd stick it on Fixed; if more than 12,000 miles pa I'd be sure its set for variable.

Mileage will be less than 12000 pa, so fixed sounds like the one to me.

Ring the garage to confirm. If you are going fixed then they can reset it or can tell you how to do it.

To reset (and set to fixed)

Hold the trip button whilst turning the ignition on.

Keep holding it until service indicator appears.

Turn clock button clockwise until reset.

Turn ignition off.

Since Saturday I've done about 50 miles, in about 8 starts (in V cold weather) and the time to service has gone from 500 to 300 miles.

yes its normal, the mileage is an estimate and will go down faster or slower depending on your driving and conditions.
