Servicing Question

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My Octy has just celebrated its 2year birthday and in that time it's done 13k miles. Its on a variable service according to the service manual so am I right in thinking that it is soon due its first service? No indicator has appeared on the maxidot. I was under the impression that services are carried out every 2yrs or 20k miles (whichever comes first)

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Yes, a service is due every 2 years or 18K which ever is first. I do around 18-20K a year so I service around once a year. Are you doing many short runs or infrequent long runs? Is the car regularly getting up to temperature? I mention this as VW /Skoda recommend you are on fixed servicing if you are doing frequent short runs. If not, all is well!

i dont do many long journeys no. just to confirm QG1 in the service manual does mean variable yes? If its 2years then, surely my service light should come on??

I must say I think 2 years is far too long to wait for a service. Even my taxi gets an oil change every 5k. I know this is quite an expense but I would rather this than big failures in the future. The oil in a turbo diesel takes an immense pounding, more so in a PD so frequent changes should be done in my opinion.

I have never experienced any mechanical problems on any of my many Skoda's over the years and would like to think this is why.

The oil recommended to me by a mechanic friend is Millers FE/PD 5W30 hi synthetic. I use this in both my cars and it is fantastic. Even the engine tone changed on my Fabia vRS.

Yes, get it in for a service as your car should have asked for one by now.

As Stated 18.5k miles (ish) or 2 years is the interval on variable servicing.

HTH

Turn on your ignition (but not starting the car) and press and hold in the stalk in the rev / speedo panel. You should see the miles left to the next service after a couple of seconds.

Just check mine  Good info :)

Thanks for that mate, just checked and it says 1600miles or 42 days. In the owners manual I'm sure it said press the reset button on the wiper stalk which i did only to find nothing happen.

Thanks again

all answered above, let me know where you take it and how you get on

It'll probably be fish brothers in swindon. I know a lot of people have had bad experiences with them (myself included when they undone all my swirl mark removal) but price wise i think theyre the best. Jewson are way too pricey but I'll give Ashmore Green in Newbury and the one in ayelsbury (whatever its called) a buzz too. Grey Gables is second closest but I havent been back since I agreed to buy a new fabia then changed my mind without telling them haha
