Drivers door pull clips

Featured Replies

Firstly thanks to humsk, who's picture I've borrowed! Does anyone know if there's a clip missing where I've circled? I've just had my door handle replaced and it now feels loose at the back as if it could easily be pulled right off with sharp pull.

Looking closer, I found that the rear-most hole (circled) has no metal insert in it, but now I look at humsk's photo, it's exactly the same as mine, so is it supposed to be like that?

How is the rear of the door pull held down? - should there be a clip on the upper part instead (I have nothing there) ?

Also looks like there is no lug to go into that hole on the switch unit either

Yep, that's exactly what is confusing me too :( The other lugs are clear to see, but on the rear edge there is a small square moulding, but nothing that would grip into that hole that I've circled.

Maybe it's just that by being detached a couple of times, the rest of the clips are now not as tight as they were, but it really is quite loose now - more that you'd expect.

Well, it turns out that "missing" clip is normal. My guess would be that it was originally intended to have a clip in there, but that made it too difficult to prize the thing off, so they scrapped it. It relies on all the other clips being very tight to keep the panel secure at both ends.

For future reference, if the panel is loose after removal/re-fitting, you can easily prize out the metal clips and bend the lugs back in to make them grip like new again. I wish my dealer had tried this, before they decided the technical fix was to super-glue it down for me

Looked on the forum today for some help on getting the front LHS door pull off because it was squeeking but was very difficult to remove, and finally used something like these (I have 2 sets and very worthwhile they have proved over the last few years!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-TRIM-REMOVER-SET-5pce-SET-/320674091056?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item4aa9aa5030 to lever it off at the top end and then it came off easily - and my 2007 Octavia does have two clips.

Had to tighten up the T35 bolts holding the handle to the door (you need a long T35 driver!) and then put white grease all around the inside of the exterior part of the handle before I thumped it back into place - hopefully that has cured the squeeking :-)
