DSG "rattle"

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 3000 mile old CR vRS hatch

Today for the first time I noticed pullling away (either fast or crawling) there was a rattling kind of grinding but subtle sound which seemed to eminate from below the gear shift lever. It happens in first and second, then either its gone or I cat hear it when it goes from 2nd to 3rd.

Done a quick google and couldnt find much can anyone help me; Ill be gutted if its a major fault :( as Its my first decent car, and first "new" car Ive bought.

If it's of any assistance, my DSG was something similar within the first week of getting it.

I took it into the dealer one day just before they were closing and a mechanic had a listen. He reckoned it might be a heat shield on the underside of the car that needed tightening, and to go back to them if I was bothered by it

I've now done about 700 miles, and haven't noticed it at all recently. It's not for the sake of trying either, as any rattle from anywhere really p*sses me off.

I found something on a golf GTi forum regards some kinda shielding under the car on DSG's so this might be on the money. I should give the dealer a call at the end of the week, not tempted to brave the snows again as I was across from Manc to Sheffield today, it wasnt a thrilling ride out:rolleyes::thumbdwn:
