Fuel Gauge not working at all.. plz help

Featured Replies

My fabia has suffered over the last few days,

had to drain the tank due to wrong fuel and now the fuel gauge registers empty all the time (although there is no fuel warning light on)

i have taken the fuel sender out and moved it up and down manually but still nothing ( i checked it and it is working according to a multimeter testing resistance

for some reason the coolant light flashes on the instrument cluster and it never did before all this ( i have bridged the connector with wire on the coolant tank but i still get the flashing light, the only thing that remedies it is to unplug the fuel sender unit

im lost as to what it could be

id be really grateful if anyone could help... i dont want to waste money on a new sender unit if it could be something else

thanks everyone

Hmm. . . if its working at the correct resistance then i asume its working. Possibly a fuse gone?

I always start there. . . lol

anyone know if there is a fuse related to the fuel guage - i would have thought that it would be for the whole instrument panel.

will take a look

any other suggestions welcome

£10 prize to anyone who comes up with the right solution!

thanks

Tom

IIRC, the coolant temperature sensor, fuel guage sender, washer fluid level sensor and coolant level sensor all share a common ground from the dashpod (Brown/White). Given that all the activity has been around the fuel tank I would look there. Follow the ground wire from the fuel sender.

£10 might be on its way to you!

thanks again hope i find something simple

Yeah, sounds good to me - if in doubt, always try to revert to 'last known good' (or in your case 'what it was like when you last knew what was wrong!' )
