Fulda 205/50/17 Tyres

Featured Replies

The snow convinced me yesterday that my nearly fully worn Falken tyres are due to be replaced, the outer edge has all but vanished. The wear rate of the Falken's was incredibly fast so I've decided to buy 2 Fulda Exelero tyres for £200 fitted.

Has anyone had any experience of these tyres and if so what is your opinion? Hopefully they will be better than the Falken 452's they replace which can bought and fitted for £40-£50 less.

Sorry mate no idea what the fulda's are like, but agree with you about the falkens 452's they wear very quick!!

I spent ages looking at Kumhos and toyos etc, but ended up going for the Vredestein Ultracs (the old style not the sessantas) £95 fitted and balanced but Im sure you will find them cheaper than here in snowy Bridgend

The outer edge of my two front tyres has worn away very fast and I've had alignment etc checked and there is no issue there. I've also struggled with the tyres constantly losing pressure and dropping far below the usual 32 I set them at, the original tyres had no such problem.

I've no experience of these Fuldas, but some of the older compound Fuldas used to be very hard for sustained high speeds on dei autobahnen. In fact I'm still convinced that one of my mates wrote off an Audi Coupe 5S (original model, like the quattro only FWD) because he was running Fuldas on the back.

Mine are now on the back but are still wearing very quick! Never been over impressed with them really, I had trouble getting them balanced too. I now have Vredestein ultracs on the front seem an all round better tyre then the falkens.

I've discovered that the Fulda range of tyres was designed around this car

Maybach Exelero

If you have wear on the outer edge of both tyres you have a geometry problem. either the alignment is not right or you could have camber issues, best to get it checked by someone that does full Geometry check rather than just alignment.

Agreed; I'd suspect front end running too little negative camber (if you're enthusiastic then 0.0 camber might do it) but I couldn't rule out a castor problem. That said, there is still a prospect of wrong rear camber and/or toe overloading the OSF in corners.

Fulda are a German company, I used to sell them for 30 Schillings in old money way back in 1968 that equates to £1.50p today. We could'nt get enough of them.

Never had a prob with the Fk452's and i find they grip well.

Have had fulda,s on a few of my cars over the years and always thought they were very good value for money:thumbup:

i dunno much about tyres but ive had the same set i got with my new alloys about 8 months ago and im not exactly sensible when it comes to drivin with the wheel spins and sideways action which is all done on private land i mite add but they are cheap tyres they have lasted better than more expensive ones and they grip really well except in this snow only span out once so far but there is still loads of tread on them

there low profile dunno if that makes a difference but even wear all over

Im getting myself some yokohama parada spec 2 215/40/17 tyres ,set of 4 brand new from ebay soon for about £230,its between these or some 225/45/17 toyo T1r's,cant decide except the toyos are about £350!!

I think the 215/40/17 arn't suitable for your application

Run both sizes thriugh this ....TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator

And see what it says as far as standard 205/50/17's go.

Thanx for that it seems that by running 215/40/17 makes over 5% more in wheel diameter

whereas 225/45/17 equates to less than 0.5% in wheel diameter ,and the maximum should be at least 2.5%

Damn you yokohama for not making the paradas in 225/45/17 !! I really like those tyres aswel

Hi, I got some great advice on hear a while ago about tyres and I swear by it.Had my Occy Vrs since new (2001) After using Goodyears and continentals and going through them like wild fire ,I was told about Nokian tyres, a finnish tyre. They have been absolutely superb, good grip and lasted longer then my previous tyres,I bought them from My tyres online then got them fitted at a independant tyre fitter, this worked out cheaper aswell.....just putting my 2 penneth in
