Hi all.

Im after a TV, mainly for playing the Xbox 360 (w/hdmi output) on. I probably wont be getting a blu ray player or HD sky etc for a while so not fussed about that. Its going to be put in my bedroom, wallmounted, so Ive been looking at 32 inch. My upper limit is £600 but any money saved will go into buying a surround sound system.

I have been considering moving to a 37" as it may be suitable when I get my own home for the living room.

Now, Ive been told that I wont notice 1080p on a 32" - is this true, as I could save a bit of money?

Also, I have been told that Plasma isnt suitable for gaming and plasma wont be noticable on a 32" - again, if this is true I might as well go for either a 37 inch Plasma or a 32 inch LCD?

Another thing is 24p - Ive been reading up a bit about the 3:2 pulldown stuff, and understand the issue, but is it something worth paying the extra for?

Final bit, I quite like the look of the Samsung's, and have been told that the 5 series is the one to go for because the 4 series had lots of problems - is this correct?

A couple Ive been looking at are:

Samsung 32 1366x768 LCD

Sharp 32 1080p LCD

Samsung 32 1080p LCD w/24p

Panasonic 32 1080p LCD w/ 24p

If Ive missed any details give me a shout:thumbup:

i was always told 1080p was only noticeable on TV's 42" and bigger, so when I bought mine I got a 42"....slight overkill for a bedroom i know, but fine for when I move out!

If you have plans for skyHD and Blu-Ray, then try and get as many hdmi's as possible.

I also prefer LCD to Plasma.....but I think that is moreof a personal preference.

I'd say that 1080p is worth having even on a 32" , and 24p does make blu-ray films noticably smoother.

Just an update, Im reading some review on the LG PG6000 plasma. Some people are saying it gets image retention, some are saying it doesnt. Im thinking of taking a gamble though because it seems like a good price if it doesnt! However, there seems to be alot less headache with the LCD's without image retention etc so Im probably leaning more so to the LCD type.

LG 32" HD Ready Plasma TV with built-in Freeview 32PG6000 - Tesco.Direct

Just to add, I have been gaming on my 42" full HD panasonic plasma TV (42PZ81) quiet extensivly recently having got 2 new games recently. I play for hours at a time and have no problems with image retention or anything. I can recomment Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour if you want an addictive game.

The 32" LG plasma is not full HD, yes it is HD ready but the picture will be downscaled to the TV native resolution of 852x480. 42" is the smallest full HD plasma currently available, the cheapest of which is the Panasonic TH42-PZ80B. Slightly out your budget though at just over £700. Panasonic TH42PZ80B - reviews, compare UK prices, buy online

For gaming, make sure you get the lowest response time, and best contrast ratio possible.

Most TV's will have a gaming mode too

I think 42" is too much for my room tbh (although it would be nice).

Ive just been doing some looking on avforums and the samsung non full HD has some issues, but I have found that when asked about the samsung they recommended this Sony: Sony 1080p 32"

Im kinda looking at a lower budget now if I can - as Im thinking there are negatives with both technologies, Sky HD isnt an option for me for a couple of years, and in order to watch bluray Id need a player which is £200+. So, if I go cheap(ish) then when Im ready (and can afford) the rest of the kit then Ill upgrade to something like mannyo's.

(Also, forgot to mention that I'm currently using a 15" LCD, which ok for some games, but impossible for others. Sky and DVDs look nice on it though).

and in order to watch bluray Id need a player which is £200+.

Give it a few months and blu-ray players will be under £100

They are already under £150 if you shop around.

Good point! I suppose Im too impatient

Mike, If I were you, I would try and get a full HD set, mainly for the greatness it gives if ever you want to use it as a PC monitor. Having a 1920x1080 real estate desktop is very handy, and at 32", it's perfectly usable pixel size if you're only a metre or two away, and it's plug and play with a dvi - hdmi cable :)
