BMC Panel filter slowing me down :(

Featured Replies

I currently have a BMC sport panel filter fitted, but as soon as i remove it and run the car with No air filter (i know i shouldnt have) the car was DEFIANTLY faster, Why would this be? and i have purchased a carbonio induction kit, im just slightly concerned it will feel slower with that fitted aswell, just a bit of advice really as to why it would slow it down.

There is no or very little power gains with a carbonio induction kit. Panel filters will give small gains. The only sure way is on a rolling road.

Its going to been faster with no air filter since the air flow is not being restricted/filtered! No good for the engine though!

Do a search, loads about carbonio induction kits.

I do know what he means, in a way.

I had the standard panel filter on for ages, loads of power and torque. Then i got a CAI and the car felt to bog down more and torque felt as though it had dropped. I then opted for a Ramair panel filter, which i was worried about as a friend had a performance panel filter on and it felt boggy but the Ramair is spot on and feels as good if not better than stock.

of course it will run faster with no filter due to no restrictions,

youll definatly feel some restriction when your engine sucks up a load of leaves, water etc and goes grrrrrrriiiiiinnnd, bang.

dead engine goes even slower than one with a panel filter

yeah but he's talking about NO filter.

Aye i know but he is getting a replacement for his BMC and is worried about it. Thought i would share my experience for what its worth, rather than shoot him down for testing without a filter on which he clearly knows is wrong.

@ puntogtkid Some filters are better than others see how you feel about the carbonio thats all you can do.

I know you had the same ebay cheapy CAI as me Martin. Sounded great but definitley had less torque than with the standard box.

Since we're talking cai and airbox's, what's people's opinion on a Bmc cda air box, Any gains over standard or just slighty more noise?

id say it was alright. mines working well. but then again i had my car re-remapped when i installed it.

so i cant really say anything useful... apart from never eat yellow snow!

apart from never eat yellow snow!

Top seasonal tip there :rofl::rofl::rofl:

My Corrado VR6 saw a 7bhp increase after fitting a BMC. Before and after dyno runs. Pretty impressive with N/A engines, not too sure about turbos. Got one on the vRS, but not sure how much it's gained cos I've got other mods too.

Bugger..... now you tell me.

That BMC CDA airbox seems a bit pointless to me (altough it does look very nice!) The car already comes with one for free!

The standard airbox is huge, which is good. Bigger the better baby!!

Cheers lads, yeah probaly won't bother and save some money.
