Hybrid Turbo

Featured Replies

I'm in a Dilemma as to whether to keep my car and spend a bit more money on giving it some more punch...

Could a Hybrid Turbo be fitted to my car without any other mods needed?

Car is a 2004 2.5 V6 TDi and ive modded it best I can with going down the part replacement route.

Thoughts really folks

Not sure which hybrid is used for the V6. Turbo Dynamics would be able to tell you though, and could probably uprate your existing unit as I expect it's a Garrett already fitted.

An uprated clutch would be a good idea, as you'll be running quite a bit more power than std once it's mapped. And also run it in conjunction with an FMIC as it will go beyond the scope of the SMIC (providing of course the V6 TDI runs one - don't know the particulars of the setup I'm afraid).

A job like this might be a bit developmental? I'd suggest opening dialogues with Awesome and Jabbasport.

If you do decide to go for it, let us know... it'd be interesting to see someone going this far on a Superb.

I have a hybrid turbo for the 2.5V6 TDI... off the car.

It's a good mod, but you also need to decat and put in bigger injectors. You will also need a remap. With these, 2.5TDI V6 is good for 240bhp. Otherwise you'll find that the power band resembles more the 4-cyl with a hybrid, ie 2300-4200rpm, and you'll get perhaps 10bhp at the top of 190bhp readily achievable via a remap alone.

Doing this mod properly is on my ToDo list, though, as this adds power at the very top as well as mid-range - and I find that the Superb is gearing limited on the Autobahn...

Cripes! I never expected you to be joining the "dark side"!

Agree with the remap though, and IMHO if you're going to this length it'd always be worth an FMIC as Wardy suggested.

Diesel (or anyone else with a V6 for that matter), does the V6 have a SMIC as standard?

Twin SMIC, one on each side. Too bad they're hooked up in series and not parallel...

Anyway, FMIC is a possibility, either a small one inline with SMICs (instead of connecting pipe), or as a stand-alone unit.

My main problem in carrying out this mod is lack of time and lack of suppliers local to Hertfordshire. In particular, the only exhaust maker that I know of is H&S in Essex, but they charge Porsche prices - a downpipe without a cat for stlg500, anyone?

Custom's the way forward, it certainly will be for me when mine fails. It's not like Milltek will shift many systems for a Superb is it!?? My Powerflow dealer quoted me about £220 - £250 for turbo back inc cat bypass when I first got my car. Thumbs up for him as well, he's done systems for me in the past. (Plug plug Unique Exhausts in Stafford :) )

Twin SMIC's eh, and in series no less... how odd. Maybe that's (one reason) why a generic remap on a V6 "only" produces 190ish from 170. The good news on the FMIC front is that there's rooks of space in the front bumper! :)

What kind of Turbo is it..? Also, from a bigger injector point of view, what cost are we talking?????

Might have to give JBS a shout if all this is possible. :)

It seems (over on the Fabia section, where people have gone this far) that methanol injection is a popular alternative to larger injectors. It appears as though you get more power for a (slightly) lower outlay, and it's more "bolt on" than new injectors which obviously require fairly large amounts of work to install.

I think the Devil's Own injection kits are good value if memory serves, I've looked at the previously. I also think Devil's Own is a site sponsor, or certainly someone who's around.

Perhaps if Jason (devonutopia) reads this he can offer his opinions, I know he's got that fitted.
